How Soon Will The ‘New’ Vine Implode?

As a former ‘vine’ member, I cannot help but wonder just what were they thinking? I knew that the new look would not be to my liking, but I had no idea that it would be as bad as it is. I’ve got to wonder, (since they could not have possibly done that on purpose, could they?)just who could have finalized that format and been in their right mind? I realize that change occurs all the time, however, some change is good and others, not so good and with the case of the ‘new vine’, I would say it was down right deadly.

I really cannot see that site remaining as popular as it once was, not the way it looks today. I’ve read comments from some of the stalwarts bravely committing to hanging in there and pushing for others to do likewise. They are in the minority and it begs the question, are they being paid to pump that mess up? Maybe my ‘conspiracy theorist’ radar is in overdrive, but it makes no sense to push something that is so obviously broken in the eyes of the majority of vine posters. My bad, they must push it to get revenue as numbers count!

So, my question:How long do you think it will be before the ‘new vine’ implodes? I give it 6 months. What say you?

    1. Brian, in all seriousness. I think they really mucked up big time. I’ve read some of the responses and I must agree with you. It ain’t looking good at all. Like I said, there are a few posters who are stating that they are fine with it, but they are few and far between. I believe that if a person signed up for the first time on that site, they would find a problem or several problems with it. I mean, I didn’t expect the change to be good, but I didn’t expect it to be that horrid either. There’s just nothing I could do with it and nothing good that I can say about it.

They claim that it is set in stone and that they’re not going to go back to the old format, but if that’ the case, they could be looking at possible revenue loss and consequentially, possible job loss. That place was home to many for years. I was just a newbie and I took to it, so I can only imagine how people feel who have been on the site for over 3 years. They really should have taken into consideration, just what the majority of the testers were saying, about how they didn’t like it. Oh, well..and another one(potentially)bites the dust.

  1. I don’t know yet. I have to update my browser, they tell me.

I’ve tried to update before and it won’t take, so I’ll have to wait and see.

It doesn’t seem to be too bad.

  2. My hat is off to you Teresa for hanging in there with it. It hurt my eyes even though I decreased the font and I seriously got tired of scrolling, scrolling, scrolling and reading the same posts over and over in order to get to the new ones and that doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of the issues I have with the new look. I’m outta there and not going back. But again, for those who stay, I wish you all the best! It’s just too broke for me and it didn’t need breaking.

    1. Well, I updated my browser and it made all the difference. The entire newsvine looks different now.

I got stuck in beta for 2 days and coudn’t get out. Newsvine help got me out, but I knew it was inevitable that I’d get stuck there for good.

Without the upgrade, I had nothing in my tracker. After, it was almost like the old vine tracker.

Now I’m wondering how classic would have looked if I had upgraded before it ended.

At this point, I can’t tell much difference. There are actually some good improvements.

  3. Teresa, I’m glad that the problem was fixed for you! And thanks for stopping in to give us an update on how things are going. I’m always glad to see a fellow former viner.

  4. So, Brian…you finally had enough also, I see. I don’t blame you. I couldn’t do anything with it. Granted, I was only on there for the first day, but it was not ‘user friendly’ at all. Not like the old vine. And I couldn’t find a thing. Then they were stating that we should read up on how to navigate it. Hello! And excuse the hell out of me!! But I didn’t have to read up on the ‘classic’ version to basically get around the ‘basics’.

And even though, I’ve stated this before, I had a serious problem being forced into groups when I had never posted to a group before. Not to mention(and this was obviously a sticking point with me)that ‘feeding at the trough’ nonsense was insulting, just insulting!! I mean, what the hell!! Of course that was to make group discussion more ‘palatable’, no pun intended and to discourage people from public discussion and force them into accepting groups. How very democratic of them. Well..they can have it, I’m done.

Brian I am sorry you couldn’t make it work for you because you have a true gift and your poetry needs a wider audience, but even I don’t know how anyone would even find it on that site..
    We’ll think of something.

  5. Shelby, I voted 3 months in your poll, because I recent;y read that someone is trying to organize an April 1st date for a coordinated group cancellation of their member accounts. It should be interesting to see what happens and how many do leave on that date.

As one who was banned from Newsvine (December 26, 2012) I can’t participate in that, and have not actually had to deal with the new changes, but I like to look in and see what’s going on. It’s like watching a massive car wreck! I’ve written about it on my blogs WATER ( http://muckibr4.wordpress.com/ ) and Newsviner Truth ( http://newsviner.wordpress.com/ ). I would appreciate your comments, or those of your friends, on any of my blogs.

    Take care!
