Should I Continue Trying?

Should I Continue Trying?

Who am I to dare think that I can make a difference?
How big is my ego to think that anyone will listen?

Why should you pay attention to me?
Are we not all speaking at once?
So, who is to hear me when I wail and scream?

Why do I try to get through to you?
When 100 million voices are all speaking at once.
Listen to me. Hear Me! Hey! Over here!

I am just one among millions clamoring to be heard.
I throw myself into the fray hoping to rise above it.
Why can I not be that lone one that is heard above all?

Have I not something important to say?
What is stopping me from making the world a better place?
There is something that I lack, though I know not what it is.

I have the passion. I have the spirit. I have the drive.
And yet, I do not have what it takes.
I am impotent. I am forgotten. I am not heard.

Even though I scream, my voice is silent.
You do not hear me. I talk to myself.
No, I should not continue trying.
What would be the point?

  1. One who cares but does not speak will not be heard.

To reach the whole the voice of the one must transcend all the rest.

Yet that voice, small as it is is drown in a sea of apathy when trying to address the masses.

To holler from the roof top attempting to force others to listen comes across as rebellion.

The appearance of rebellion fosters an attitude contrary to the result desired.

Speak softly make them lean in to hear, it is then that they will listen.

But if you stay silent you are sure to fail, as you have quit trying.

Now i ask you, is there any real reason you should not continue to try when your heart aches for your cause? If you are not true to your heart, is there any truth at all?

  2. Brian, what you wrote is absolutely beautiful and so inspiring!

‘One who cares but does not speak will not be heard’.
That statement is so very wise!

‘But if you stay silent you are sure to fail, as you have quit trying’.
And that, my friend, is why I continue. I do not think that I could quit even if I tried. It’s just not in me. I get frustrated sometimes because of so much suffering that I see. I ache for people and wish there was more that I could do.

You are correct, I must stay ‘true to my heart’ as there is truth in the words that I write.

I have so much to thank you for because just when I feel that there is no point, you come with your beautiful, inspirational words of wisdom, I am now more than ever determined to continue. Who knows? Maybe one day…….one day……

    1. sometimes we need an outside reminder of who we are and why we do the things that we do. remember, when you cannot help the ten, that does not mean you cannot help one of the ten. when you help that one, you can often return hope to that person. just keep doing what you can when you can.

      1. Again, I thank you Brian because I know that this is what you do, “when you help that one, you can often return hope to that person. just keep doing what you can when you can.” Indeed, that sums it up!
