I Heave A Sigh!

I heave a sigh for the hungry children,
who will go without a meal tonight.
I heave a sigh for the sick, old man,
who’ll be dead before morning’s light.

I heave a sigh for those who are jobless.
And for the ones who are out on the street.
I heave a sigh for those who are in cages
and for whom the word freedom, is obsolete.

I heave a sigh for a world in distress
because the needs of the many aren’t met.
I heave a sigh for the broken and forgotten
and for the homeless Vietnam vet.

I heave a sigh because my pen runs dry.
My voice is silenced by a deafening snore.
I heave a sigh because I don’t understand
why we cannot help the weak and the poor.

…..I heave a sigh!!!

Food stamps have been cut AGAIN! The hunger problem in America is about to get even worse as food shelves are already stretched. The programs that help those in need, including children, are being gutted every time there is a new budget deal struck between America’s two sets of thugs, the DemocRATS and the ReTHUGniCONS! The military budget is more important because killing will always remain America’s top priority. And for those who are caught up in a never ending struggle for survival amidst all the lavishness and decadence displayed by the ‘powerful’, who grin at your plight and spit in your face, I heave a sigh and my pen is drained from bemoaning your fate!

    1. Awww gosh darnnit, you done gawn and dunnit now! Ima blushun an a grinnin’ ovuh that thar comment! Shucks!

Skulz, you’re a right gennulmun, ya are and I thanky ye!!

But seriously, with ALL that is going on, all I hear from the people impacted, affected and afflicted is a ‘deafening snore’! Sad, just sad!

But, I love that comment Skulz! Thank you SO much!!!

      1. I did not know that I was a closet redneck until I made the move to Arizona. I’m out the closet now. That would by extension, make me a redneck radical dissident. Oh yes and by the by, I have two pair of bib overalls. One pair for the everyday and one pair for formal wear.
HAH! Oh damn I am one funny guy.

  1. Skulz, if you’re a closet redneck, then I am a poor relation of Scarlett O’Hara and was born on the wrong side of the blanket in a cabin down by the crick.

Oh, and you are indeed one funny guy. I know. I never fail to read your blog and though you are ‘dead’ serious, you have a keen sense of wit and it gets your point across. I always look forward to seeing just what you will come up with next and I am never disappointed.

    1. Ah, thank you, Shainbird! Yes, it pains me to know that so many people are having a hellacious time just trying to survive in a world where everyone could have what they need and then some but for the sheer, unmitigated greed of the so-called ‘elite’ who are anything but. Oh, yes indeed, I heave a sigh!

Thank you that complimenting comment on this one Shainbird! Hope all is well with you!

  2. I feel this way so often. I heave a sigh when I think of these things that break my heart because I know it’s the way the world is, I want to fix it, but I don’t know how.

    1. Barnesr79, thank you for your comment and yes indeed, I think many of us are sighing all over the place these days because we feel that our hands are tied. People are doing what they can and in many instances, it is the poor who are trying to help the poor. And those of us whose job it is to help others are pitching in with what we have to try and help. The shame of it is that those who hold the purse strings are doing everything possible to make it harder for people to just survive because it is quite apparent, that we can just forget about thriving.

I don’t know what’s going to happen, but something sure needs to give because what’s going down is just untenable and should be unsustainable, at this rate.

Again, thank you for your comment and for the follow!

  3. That is certainly a powerful poem that could be more relevant now given the Corona-cession (patent pending). Great work.

In other news, I did check out your other recordings on SoundCloud. I enjoyed listening to them.

    1. Thanks Ospreyshire! I haven’t been on SoundCloud for some time because I’ve been busy trying to see if I can put together something that I actually like. I may need to ‘buy’ some more equipment and with my penchant for hating ALL things of CAPITALISM, that is presenting quite a problem. Oh well, we shall see.

And unfortunately, this poem is still relevant and what’s more, I don’t think anything is about to change for the better anytime soon.

I sincerely thank you for your comment.
