Over 2.3 million men in America are in prison — about half for drug crimes. Seventy percent of all men imprisoned are black or Hispanic. Thirty years ago, before the “War on Drugs” was implemented, there were only 300,000 people in the American prison system.

Homelessness has become an especially serious problem in the African-American community, with Blacks making up half of the nation’s homeless community, according to a report by the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, African-Americans disproportionately represent 47 percent of homeless people, although they make up only 12 percent of the general population.

A black driver is about 31 percent more likely to be pulled over than a white driver, or about 23 percent more likely than a Hispanic driver. “Driving while black” is, indeed, a measurable phenomenon.

The ACLU is committed to challenging the “school-to-prison pipeline,” a disturbing national trend wherein children are funneled out of public schools and into the juvenile and criminal justice systems. Many of these children have learning disabilities or histories of poverty, abuse, or neglect, and would benefit from additional educational and counseling services. Instead, they are isolated, punished, and pushed out.
“Zero-tolerance” policies criminalize minor infractions of school rules, while cops in schools lead to students being criminalized for behavior that should be handled inside the school. Students of color are especially vulnerable to push-out trends and the discriminatory application of discipline.
So, as you can clearly see, Black lives matter! BLACK LIVES MATTER! Keep up the good work, #Blacklivesmatter! Because whatever you’re doing, it is crystal clear that it IS working! Hell! Where do I sign up????!!!!!

Yes, it pained me to pen this one, but I felt the need to do it. Why we are still marching and protesting after so many decades is beyond me because it would seem to be the very definition of ‘insanity’. Continuing to do the same thing over and over again, expecting different results, but continuing to get the same IS indeed, insanity.

I can only see #BlackLivesMatter becoming truly effective when their organizers begin connecting the dots and confronting the shameless economic inequality confront African Americans and other disenfranchised minorities. No system condoning systematic oppression and exploitation and allowing a tiny minority to monopolize the basic essentials all people need for survival is either either “free” or “democratic.”

Dr. Bramhall, in my opinion, #BlackLivesMatter is just as ineffective as all the other ‘movements’ because what of any significance has changed down through the decades of marches and protests and civil disobedience and whatnot? Not much of any goddamn thing. The beat goes on and it will continue. I fucking refuse to continue to walk the soles of my shoes down to shreds and all for nothing. The shit that runs this shithole know what the score is and they want it to remain that way and so it shall despite ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. If people want to continue to march to the beat of the same drum that our ancestors did, fine, they are welcome to do so, but I’m too damn tired to continue with the charade that I am changing a goddamn thing. I am only needing new shoes and rubbing aching feet.

I see #BlackLivesMatter being effective right now for taking a direct approach to the issues traditional movements have backed off from. Leaders aren’t necessary when the majority acts.

I certainly respect your opinion, aneducatedbrother, even as I disagree with it. I don’t see #BlackLivesMatter as being effective because nothing has changed. Black people are still getting pulled over for no reason other than the color of their skin. As I’ve pointed out in this post, everything that’s been going down since the official end of ‘slavery’ is still going down and there is no end in sight despite numerous protest groups marching and protesting from one end of this country to the other.
