“Man In The Mirror!”

Michael Jackson1

I would like to recognize and honor Michael Jackson with this post. That man could move me to tears every single time I heard him sing and every single time I saw him move. He cared so much about this planet and about the children and for that he was targeted. I don’t care how much he settled those erroneous lawsuits for and I don’t care what any media hounds printed about him. He was a victim of an abusive father and yet despite that and in defiance of that, he still went on to become the greatest living legend to have ever graced this planet.
That mess that we are forced to listen to on radios and IPods and other listening devices is not worth a farthing. What I wouldn’t give to be able to turn back the hands of time and change the circumstances under which Michael Jackson died. If only I could replay that day over, he would still be with us today, if I had anything to say about it.

I find myself going to YouTube and just watching and listening to the magic that IS Michael. I sit and shed tears whenever I hear “Man In The Mirror.” That song right there speaks volumes. What this world could look like if only each and every one of us looked in the mirror and if we did not like what we see, and most of us do not, confront the evilness in our hearts and fight against it, if we would confront the hatred and ugliness that consumes us and turn that into something positive, what a wonderful world this could be.

Can you just imagine what this world is going to look like in a mere five years from now if we continue down the road we are headed? There will be no bright future for our children and our grandchildren. That is a fact. What we lack is even the basics in humanity 101. We don’t even have the basics down pat to what it means to be ‘human’. How can we even look our children in the eye and say, “This world will be a better place for you when I am gone because I am going to see to it,” when we see to it that it gets more and more fucked up as each day passes. We are not only failing our children, we are failing ourselves. We moan and whine about some unseen forces that are in control of our lives and yet what do we do about things that are within our control? We do nothing but bellyache and complain and hope that some savior will come from who the hell knows where and do the hard part; carve a better future for us all. We are supposed to be doing that.

When was the last time you helped someone? Or saw someone in a store with not enough money to pay for their food and you stepped up and paid the difference? When was the last time you went to a shelter and handed out socks or personal hygiene items to those in need? When was the last time you passed by a homeless person and looked the other way? Consoled your conscience with the thought that, “Well, he probably is just scamming us?” It is so easy to tell ourselves that there is nothing that we can do about anything. For starters, you could visit a nursing home and brighten some sick and elderly person’s day. It does not have to always cost you money to do some good instead of just posting about how bad shit is. We all know this. Yeah, it’s bad, but what are we doing about it? How about we leave our keyboards, let them collect dust and help someone instead of bringing the stories of the downtrodden for us to scroll and peruse, and instead, blog about the fact that you got off your ass and took canned goods to a food shelf and said, “Pass it on! Play it forward!” Blogged about the fact that you ladled soup out at a homeless shelter, and said, “Pass it on! Play it forward!” Blogged about the fact that you cleaned out your closet, found winter coats that you couldn’t wear and donated them, “Now pass it on! Play it forward!” Blogged about the fact that you brightened a child’s day by tutoring him/her and again said, “Pass it on! Play it forward!” There are programs in every city in every state that need volunteers. If we really want to provide a better future for our children and grandchildren, then don’t bother looking to Bernie Sanders to get it done. Don’t bother looking to Hillary Clinton to get it done or Donald Trump. You be the change that makes a difference. No politician is going to ever get it done. We, the people have it within our power to help one person at a time. When will you write about what you have done to help someone as opposed to writing about what you hope some politician will do?

Stand and look in your mirror. You be the ‘man’ in the mirror. Not Bernie Sanders. Not Hillary Clinton. Not Donald Trump. Not Jeb Bush, but YOU! Change can start with YOU and ME! “Pass it on! Play it forward!” Make that change!

  1. Love the song. I have this entire tour on dvd. I loved his music. I’ll quote J.R.R. Tolkien here: “Some believe it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. It is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love.” We do have the power Shelby. Sadly, most don’t use it.

    1. That I believe, is SO true Dara! We like to think that we can do so little, but we don’t even try to do anything, for the most part except whine and feel sorry for ourselves. We think that to accomplish change, we need a ton of money when that is not so. All we need is love, humanity and the desire to help someone in need. The need is there, but where are we? Blogging about it.

I shamed myself with this one because I have been lax in doing things that I could do, but I intend to change all of that. I am not going to sit around and bemoan the fate of the world, that is not going to do any good. There is so much to be done and I am damn well going to roll up my sleeves and do my part. I’ve done it before and I should not be letting anything stop me from continuing.

I thank you for that wonderful and most thoughtful comment and again, you are right, “we do have the power, but sadly, most don’t use it.” How true those words are!

      1. Yes, I used to do more too but got very discouraged. I’m definitely going to “look in the mirror” more often. Thanks Shelby!

      1. Yes, I love him still! I can only imagine how his ‘final’ tour would have gone and it was sold out. That shows the love that his fans had for him through thick and thin.

We never realize or think of the toll that it takes on someone that started his career as a vulnerable child himself. What it took for him to put the lyrics and music together and perform in the videos and to the crowds. He had phenomenal stamina, but he was human, after all. I can only imagine his loneliness. To be that loved, but to have to deal with all that that entails. It has to be daunting.

Michael Jackson will always be No. 1 in my book. None can compare!

        Thank you!

  2. This is very practical advice in a way. People who build their social capital by serving their community will be able to look to friends and neighbors when the cash economy collapses. Which seems inevitable at this point. Soon everywhere will be like Greece.

    1. Well, you know me Dr. Bramhall, ever the practical one I am. LOL! But seriously, we are going to need each other in the coming years and that is a fact and the sooner we recognize this, the better chance we stand of making it through the inevitable collapse and cataclysmic shit storm that will result. Only the blind and the foolish and the willfully ignorant can’t see what’s coming. And we’d better get our asses in gear!

I also saw a post about you on my reader from Talesfromthelou and you are quite the headliner. It seems that you’ve been a busy bee with regards to fighting against the TPPA! I can only say that you are already out of your seat and attempting to do your part. I doff my cyber hat to you Dr. Bramhall. You lead by example. May we all have the temerity to follow in your lofty footsteps.

      Thank you!

    1. Tubularsock, if your mirror broke then I am sure that just means that your own overzealous capitalistic ways have caught up with you and by that I mean, your mirror, though I know you purchased it on Rodeo Drive was still just some cheap junk from China that must be replaced every fifteen minutes even if you only give it a dirty look. I suggest that you refrain from giving your next mirror, ‘a dirty look’ and try to appease it by beaming at yourself and repeat this phrase,

“Why mirror, mirror on the wall,
I am the handsomest of all.
I’ve proven that time after time
I am quite unique and so sublime
My adoring public can’t get enough
of me and all my funky stuff.”

LMAO! Let me know how that works out for you and if it does not, then witch that I am, I shall conjure up a new spell to cast over your mirror, my dear Tubularsock!

      1. Hot Damn Shelby, your chant worked great!

Tubularsock took your advice, well at least it is what Tubularsock thought you were “REALLY” saying and ……… PROFIT!

Tubularsock took the broken pieces of the broken mirror and framed them in a “fake-gold-look” and wholesaled them to Walmart with the catchy title Shelby the bitch (no that was witch) fortune teller guru tells your future mirror!

They sold for $29.99. Almost three million in profit.
And yes, you get your share!

The down side is that due to expenses, you understand Tubularsock’s world tour promoting the product in Paris, Rome, London, Singapore, Tokyo and Springfield cost a little bit more than expected.

If you wouldn’t mind sending Tubularsock $53.75 for the over expenditure we can call it even.

        Thanks Shelby, Capitalism Rules!
