Mere Mortals

Oh Mere Mortals

Oh mere mortals do not cry
when faced with our own mortality.
Each crisis, we meet with stoic resolve
and shoulder the knowledge quite pragmatically.

Those who cry and wring their hands
have yet to face the reality
of sickness, strife, poverty and pain
with unrelenting impartiality.

Trouble comes to each of us,
to all who are of humanity.
So be not at all too surprised
when we are faced with tragedy.

Let the dreamers dream
until reality sets in
and they witness
the horrors of reality.

The last stanza is my cousin’s contribution. This is his recognition.
