Downtown Minneapolis’ Residential Boom Reversing As Crime Rises, Businesses Shutter

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO)The once-burgeoning downtown Minneapolis can be hard to recognize these days: empty storefronts, empty sidewalks. And on several nights, unrest has filled the streets.

“Now because of what’s going on with the pandemic, and now the civil unrest, in my condo building downtown we have a record 21 lock boxes.  We’ve never had this many people leaving the building. It’s shocking,” LaBelle said. “They’re selling their units because they don’t want to live in an unsafe environment.”

I remember when I lived in Minneapolis and they were in the process of building those luxury high rise condos downtown. I remember seeing the two Minneapolis’s converge; on the one hand, you had the people who were obviously well off, sitting outside of upscale dining establishments, eating and drinking with not a care in the world, while on the other hand, across the street, a homeless man would be sitting on the sidewalk with a cardboard sign or there would be a man standing near Target, playing a guitar while only a handful of people threw some coins into the little box he hoped to fill. There was even a homeless veteran sitting further down and I took some pictures just to showcase the life of the haves and the have nots. The photos are small because I was using an old flip phone I had, but this is what I managed to dig up.

Never once did I see ANY of those poor homeless people commit a crime. What was their ‘crime’? They were poor. But now that Minneapolis cannot get a handle on its soaring crime problem thanks in part to the whites who simply chose to ignore a festering problem until that problem finally came home to roost, the whites have no choice but to sit up and take notice of what they had long been ignoring. Now there are calls for social justice. Now there are calls for affordable housing in downtown Minneapolis. Why? Because the whites are terrified to the point whereas some are fleeing because whites always have the money to flee from any unpleasantness; anything that could ruin their ‘happy hour’ or their stroll to Target Field to watch a Twins baseball game.

Couple assaulted in downtown Minneapolis, police investigate

MINNEAPOLIS — A couple in Minneapolis are sharing their story after they say they were randomly attacked by a group of eight to 10 people downtown Friday night.

The couple, who did not want to identify themselves out of safety concerns, say it happened at the intersection of North 5th Street and 2nd Avenue in the North Loop just after 10 p.m.

Yes indeed, that would have been unheard of just a few short years ago. But now, the scene in downtown Minneapolis on any given day is one of a ‘ghost town’ and I highly doubt that is about to change because when Minneapolis gave us a look into what Minneapolis is ALL about when Derek Chauvin knelt on George Floyd’s neck for damn near ten minutes until he killed him, that put paid to that shit about the whites having Minneapolis on lockdown. The shit has been hitting the fan since then. Those who have been forced to live like shit are letting go and the whites who just want to fuck shit up, are also doing the same. Everybody is making damn sure that Minneapolis continues to be front and center in the news for exactly what Minneapolis has always been about; making sure that the downtrodden has stayed downtrodden and that wealthy whites could sit back and enjoy themselves without worry about ‘those’ people infringing on their enjoyment of a city that should include ALL people and not just wealthy WHITES.

Dozens Of Businesses Consider Moving Out Of Downtown Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Downtown Minneapolis is at risk of losing dozens of businesses.

Cruising through downtown Minneapolis is not what it once was. On some stretches the largest city in the state looks more like a ghost town.

A new survey by the Downtown Council shows 45 business owners say they are considering leaving downtown – citing the lack of people working or socializing downtown – and the idea that the police department could be dismantled.

Though they won’t say which businesses are considering pulling out of downtown, the council says one of the businesses employs 600 people.

That could mean a lot of empty spaces.

I was so damn glad to read this, it ain’t even funny! That’s just what this damn city deserves and I knew it was coming. Because when you treat a certain segment of the population a certain way, that shit IS going to come back and bite you on the ass. And when my cousin had to live in a derelict building that was not even licensed for occupancy and when the lawyer, Michael F. Cockson, claimed to want to take the case to get compensation for his clients, who he then turned around and sued for their class action settlement monies which saw my cousin receive a lousy $724.15, I knew that Minneapolis was going to get hit and get hit hard. I only had to sit back and wait.

A copy of the settlement check from an $18.5 million lawsuit and this is the amount that my cousin received. Seriously? When Michael F. Cockson’s greedy ass is not even satisfied with $6 million from a lawsuit that was supposed to compensate people for living in slums that were not even licensed by the City of Minneapolis, MN and how could this check get issued when Michael F. Cockson’s appeal for more in Attorney’s Fees had not even been heard? More shenanigans by crooks and liars.

 

And though the law firm that Michael F. Cockson is a partner at is more than likely not leaving downtown Minneapolis, one thing that I am certain about, since COVID-19 came into play law firms have been impacted. I read that many lawyers have lost their job and not only that, the client list is drying up because who can pay for an attorney when millions have lost their jobs and could not even go anywhere for months thanks to COVID-19? So whatever you bought with that six million dollar plus payout, Cockson, I hope it was worth it because I do believe that right now, your ass ain’t sitting so high on the hog. You haven’t hit rock bottom yet, but it is my belief that you will because “as you sow so shall you reap.” And Minneapolis’s whites have got a lot of reaping to do based on the shit they’ve sown for too damn long.

They’re not just fucking shit up where immigrants set up shop, they’ve now figured out that downtown Minneapolis ain’t so special anymore. MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A group of custom cars caused quite the scene Sunday night through downtown Minneapolis.

A WCCO crew saw a group of drivers drag race and do burnouts down Hennepin Avenue as they left a car show and back-to-school giveaway on Nicollet Island outside of DeLaSalle High School.

The whites in Minneapolis can no longer control that shit! And newsflash! It wasn’t Black folks doing burnouts and needing fire hydrants opened. They don’t have the cars for that shit, most definitely NOT if they live in Minnesota!

Now with all the surveillance cameras in downtown Minneapolis, the kops should have no problem finding those whites who were fucking shit up to the point whereas the kops had to turn fire hydrants on. There are surveillance cameras everywhere in downtown Minneapolis and so let’s see who’ll get locked up for this latest shit. I won’t hold my breath.

“Attorney Michael F. Cockson, You Lost The Appeal For More Attorney’s Fees And So Where Is My Cousin’s Class Action Settlement Money?”

 

 

Some of you may know that I published several posts regarding the fact that my cousin was part of an $18.5 million dollar class action lawsuit because he rented from slumlords who had no valid rental licenses in Minneapolis, MN.

Steve Frenz and Spiros Zorbalas teemed up to run a scam on the City of Minneapolis, MN when the City of Minneapolis, MN ran ‘The Slumlord of Minneapolis’, Spiros Zorbalas, out of Minneapolis by stripping him of his rental licenses on ALL rental properties in Minneapolis, MN.

Then along comes Steve Frenz who told the City of Minneapolis, MN that he had purchased ALL of the properties that had been previously owned by Spiros Zorbalas. The City of Minneapolis, MN then approved rental licenses for the properties that had been owned by Spiros Zorbalas. However, the fact of the matter is that Spiros Zorbalas still owned the rental properties that Steve Frenz claimed he now owned, thus making his rental licenses, null and void. Meanwhile, thousands of mostly low income minority tenants were paying rent to live in vermin and rodent infested buildings that were substandard to say the least in that many had no heat, no hot water, crumbling stairs, unsecured mailboxes, bedbugs and the list is endless.

The City of Minneapolis, MN ‘claimed’ to have no knowledge of the fraud being perpetrated by Spiros Zorbalas and Steve Frenz. Enter Attorney Michael F. Cockson, who was initially contacted by Inquilinxs Unidos, a renters’ union out of Minneapolis, MN that helps immigrants with housing and other issues they face. Attorney Michael F. Cockson, a partner at the law firm, FAEGRE BAKER DANIELS LLP 2200 Wells Fargo Center, 90 South Seventh Street, Minneapolis, MN 55402 agreed to take the case on behalf of Inquilinxs Unidos. However, after learning of the scope of tenants who were adversely impacted by unclean and unsafe building conditions, Judge Mary Vasaly upgraded the case to class action status and said that all former and current renters were to receive ALL rent payments that they had made to Steve Frenz, The Apartment Shop LLC and various other holding companies that Frenz had started up to hide the fact that Spiros Zorbalas still owned the properties that he was acting as front man for.

The case was eventually settled for $18.5 million which was relegated to the coffers of the Settlement Administrators, BrownGreerPLC, located in Richmond, VA, which was to get in excess of $300,000 to send mailings to class members and to mail out checks to class members. Commonbond and another company was named as recipients of checks that should have been relegated to class members and only to class members. See here for details.

However, Attorney Michael F. Cockson was not happy with 25% of the settlement funds awarded to him by Judge Mary Vasaly and so sued his own clients in the Court of Appeals for 32% of the class action settlement funds. Now originally, he would have received over $6 million dollars from a case that he took because he wanted to “Give a voice to those who could not speak for themselves” and to “compensate them for their living conditions” and yet as of today, the appeal for more in Attorney’s Fees for Michael F. Cockson’s greedy ass is still in ‘briefing’ status with the Court of Appeals.

After I blogged about this on June 14, 2019, four days later, the Settlement Administrators called and told my cousin that the settlement checks had been mailed out on June 17, 2019. Below is a copy of the settlement check that my cousin received as his share of the $18.5 million dollar class action lawsuit.

 

So, even though my cousin paid thousands upon thousands in rent to rent an apartment that had multiple safety issues and code violations and was not even licensed to be rented, he received $724.15 while Attorney Michael F. Cockson, a partner at the law firm, FAEGRE BAKER DANIELS LLP 2200 Wells Fargo Center, 90 South Seventh Street, Minneapolis, MN 55402 is suing my cousin and all other members of this class action lawsuit that he initiated on behalf of his clients for more in Attorney’s Fees than what Judge Vasaly approved for his greedy ass. Michael F. Cockson wants more than the over $6 million that has already been taken from his poor, misused and abused clients who had been shitted on by the likes of Spiros Zorbalas and Steve Frenz.

However, Michael Cockson’s greedy ass was stopped in his tracks in trying to collect 32% of the class action settlement in Attorney’s Fees by the Minnesota Court of Appeals because the Minnesota Court of Appeals agreed with the District Court’s decision that granted Michael F. Cockson, 25% in Attorney’s Fees. That greedy bastard, Michael F. Cockson, then petitioned the Minnesota Supreme Court and the Minnesota Supreme Court DENIED his PETITION FOR REVIEW and so the decision of the Minnesota District Court’s decision still stands, your greedy ass was already awarded over $6 million dollars and you wanted more and so the Minnesota Court of Appeals Court said, “FUCK NO!” Now where is my cousin’s goddamn money? Where are your other client’s goddamn money, greedy ass Michael F. Cockson of FAEGRE BAKER DANIELS LLP 2200 Wells Fargo Center, 90 South Seventh Street, Minneapolis, MN 55402, Telephone number: 612-766-8425?

The District Court found that for class action settlements the size of this case and in the consumer category, the average, mean,and median percentages ranged from20% to 26% of the common fund. Appellant concedes there is no case law in Minnesota expressly rejecting the use of empirical studies to determine awards of attorney fees. Moreover, we know of no case that prohibits the use of such studies. The district court did not abuse its discretion when it relied in part on empirical studies to conclude that a fee award of 25% of the common-fund settlement in this case was fair and reasonable.

The district court declined to employ the lodestar method, noting its concerns that the lodestar method “create[s] a temptation for lawyers to run up the number of hours for which they [are] paid.”See In re Union Carbide Corp. Consumer Prods. Bus. Sec. Litig., 724 F.Supp. 160, 167-68 (S.D.N.Y. 1989). Appellant concedes there is no legal authority requiring the district court to perform a lodestar cross-check to confirm the reasonableness of the fee award. Because it is within the district court’s discretion to decline to employ a lodestar cross-check,the district court did not abuse its discretion. Affirmed.

 

Below is the final status of the appeal and as you can see, that greedy bastard, Michael F. Cockson, appealed to the Supreme Court for more in Attorney’s Fees after the Minnesota Court of Appeals upheld the lower court’s decision on his Attorney’s Fees and the Supreme Court DENIED his PETITION FOR FURTHER REVIEW! The District Court’s ruling stands. Your greedy ass was to receive 25% of the settlement and despite your appeals and even your Supreme Court filings, 25% is still what you are to receive and not the 32% that you quite actually, jumped up and down in trying to get. So, where is my cousin’s goddamn money? And for ANY others who were part of this class action lawsuit, get on the phone( 612-766-8425) and call that greedy bastard, Michael F. Cockson, and DEMAND to know when you are to receive the monies that should have been set aside PENDING the out come of his APPEAL for more in Attorney’s Fees than what the judge initially decreed.

 

 

 

Below is the actual outcome of the appeal. The appeal is FINAL. The Minnesota Supreme Court refused to hear the case. The judgment stands.

This particular lawsuit involved more American descendants of slavery than the lawsuits that Attorney Michael F. Cockson previously took on a pro bono basis and so for this particular case, as you can see, he fought long and hard, FOR TWO GODDAMN YEARS to get money that he should have been glad that his clients received since he supposedly took on the case to give justice to those who had been living like shit in unlicensed apartments. But what does he do? Why, he appeals for more in Attorney’s Fees, thus taking money out of the pockets of his very own clients. What goddamn sense does that make?

Michael F. Cockson settled the case knowing that he had settled the case for $18.5 million and he knew how many people would be involved in this class action case, so why then, would he turn around and basically sue his own damn clients for more of the class action settlement in Attorney’s Fees when he was the one who initially settled the case; agreed to the amount? Only to turn right around and get pissed because the judge disagreed with his bloated litigation costs; because make no mistake, that is what this all boils down to. Cockson has joined with Steve Frenz and Spiros Zorbalas in doing more wrong to those who are likened to roaches.

Attorney Michael F. Cockson is a PARTNER in the law firm, FAEGRE BAKER DANIELS LLP 2200 Wells Fargo Center, 90 South Seventh Street, Minneapolis, MN 55402 and so we know that he is not leaving his opulent downtown Minneapolis law office and heading to a slum. The man is extremely wealthy and yet he is committing a grave injustice against people who still have no voice since they don’t have a voice they can use to push back against what their own sheisty attorney is doing to them. How this sheisty bastard sleeps at night is a complete and utter mystery to me, but then again, he is white and so that right there explains it. They don’t give a shit for making things right. They don’t give a shit for leveling the playing field for those who are poor and whose rights are trampled on, daily. Those like Michael F. Cockson will take a case, not because they want to attempt to make people whole who have been misused and abused, they take those cases because they can attempt to make themselves look good by pretending concern for the poor and downtrodden while at the same time, leaving them peanuts while they walk away with millions and then are still dissatisfied by the millions they are initially awarded. Those greedy bastards then turn around and sue their own clients for more of their settlement monies for why else is my cousin’s settlement check a mere $724.15 and Attorney Michael F. Cockson’s initial take is over $6 million? How is that justice by ANY stretch of the imagination?

Minneapolis, MN ‘Pro Bono’ Attorney Michael F. Cockson’s Continued Shenanigans Over Settlement Payments From A Lawsuit Filed Against Steve Frenz And Spiros Zorbalas

In the previous post, I highlighted the fact that corporations continue to screw people, left and right. This post is going to highlight the fact that the screwing over of people only revs up when you expose the dirt.

My previous post was titled, “Minneapolis ‘Pro Bono’ Attorney Michael Cockson Is Holding Up Class Action Settlement Payments By Appealing His ‘Attorney’s Fees’ and I included the case no. A19-0578. Below is a picture of the appeal that was filed with the court by Attorney Michael F. Cockson for more in Attorney’s Fees than what was awarded to him by Judge Mary Vasaly. Attorney Michael F. Cockson was awarded 25% of the class action settlement for Attorney’s Fees and yet his greedy ass appealed Judge Mary Vasaly’s ruling on his fees since he is demanding 32% in Attorney’s Fees.

As you can see, the appeal for more in Attorney’s Fees by Michael F. Cockson is still in ‘Briefing‘ status and so I would love to hear an explanation for this.

 

Someone, please explain to me how this makes ANY sense whatsoever. After my previous blog was posted, a mere three days later, a call was received from the Settlement Administrators stating that the settlement checks had been mailed out on Monday, June 17, 2019. My cousin received this pittance today. And below is the call from the Settlement Administrators.

Minneapolis landlords to pay $18.5 million to settle suit

The settlement covers 5,400 tenants dating back to 2012, many of them low-income and members of minority groups. Tenants could receive up to $10,000 each, with the average expected to be about $2,200. The payout is based on how long they rented from the landlords and the amount they paid.

My cousin received $724. 15 which is certainly nowhere near the $2,200 that was considered to be the average amount even though many of the class members could not even be found since they had long since moved on. I only found out about this lawsuit because I was perusing the news out of Minneapolis and happened to come across this. And so the question I have is, where is the money going? And the answer would be, in Michael F. Cockson’s coffers and that of the law firm which he happens to be a partner, FAEGRE BAKER DANIELS LLP 2200 Wells Fargo Center, 90 South Seventh Street, Minneapolis, MN 55402.

For anyone who is also a class action member, if you received $724.15 as your portion of the settlement in a case that reeks to high heaven of major shenanigans going on in that those who are responsible for distributing to you, your settlement funds, are quite obviously mishandling them, I would not stand for this. Demand accountability. Demand to see how many class members were able to be found. Find out where the majority of the settlement money for this class action lawsuit is going. Find out how on earth can checks be disbursed from a class action lawsuit that has an appeal still pending by your own attorney, Michael F. Cockson, over a dispute relating to Attorney’s Fees in which he is demanding more in Attorney’s Fees than the Judge who adjudicated this case approved.

Something is going on that is absolutely rotten and it needs to be exposed. Don’t expect the mainstream media to report on this because the mainstream media refused to expose the fact that your attorney, Michael F. Cockson, was holding up your settlement checks due to his immense greed.

Michael F. Cockson wants more than $6 million in Attorney’s Fees out of an $`18.5 million dollar settlement that he agreed to even when he knew that many of the class members would not even receive anywhere near the amount that they had paid to slumlords, Steve Frenz and Spiros Zorbalas, and is even further reducing the payouts to you by appealing for more in Attorney’s Fees than what Judge Mary Vasaly originally awarded him. This lawsuit was about returning rent payments to poor people who had rented from slumlords who were not even licensed to rent their slum properties in the City of Minneapolis, MN and so how is it that the lawyers, the Settlement Administrators, Commbond and other entities are going to receive settlement funds that should go to class members because the very least you should receive is what you paid to rent an illegal apartment. My cousin’s settlement check is $724.15 because the funds for this class action lawsuit are going everywhere else other than where it is supposed to go; to those who are the victims of slumlords and shady lawyers. And he paid thousands in rent to slumlords who had no rental licenses and he should have gotten back every single penny he paid. That $724.15 is an insult and that is exactly what it was meant to be because I had the audacity to take issue with what whites get away with. This is how depraved those debased shits are! If you were in any doubt before, then I have disabused you of that notion and this is why those damn filthy, white-assed parasites have been fucking over people and getting away with it, because they can since other white-assed parasites don’t call them out on the fucked up shit they do.

No lawyer is ever going to take a case unless there is something in it for him/her.  They don’t give a shit for their clients. They are just a means to an end; the end being that they get rich and end up as partners in a law firm while you take home a measly $724.15 because as you can see, Michael F. Cockson really fought hard to get his clients chump change while he appeals to receive millions. Show me a lawyer and I’ll show you a sheisty crook. I have NEVER met or had dealings with a lawyer that could even get anywhere close to the word, “integrity, ” without bursting into flames and believe me, I have had many dealings with lawyers and I am not bragging, I’m just saying. They are all parasites who will latch onto any monies that you have coming and then shell out peanuts to those who have been hurt or otherwise fucked up by someone just as crooked as any lawyer you’ll ever come across. They are ALL alike.

Take a look at ALL that I have posted here and my previous post and tell me, does this make a damn bit of sense? As far as I am concerned, hell no, it doesn’t.

Minneapolis, MN ‘Pro Bono’ Attorney, Michael Cockson, Is Holding Up Class Action Settlement Payments By Appealing His ‘Attorney’s Fees’

 

This post is to inform anyone who is a member of the class action lawsuit involving Steve Frenz and Spiros Zorbalas that the reason why your settlement checks have not arrived, and they were due to be mailed out at the end of April and received by you no later than the first week of May, is because ‘pro bono’ Attorney, Michael Frederick Cockson, a partner at the law firm, FAEGRE BAKER DANIELS LLP located at 90 South Seventh in the Wells Fargo Building in downtown Minneapolis is appealing Judge Mary Vasaly’s ruling that he receive 25% of the class action settlement funds in Attorney’s Fees but since he is greedy as hell, he is appealing the Judge’s decision because he wants 32% in Attorney’s Fees out of the class action settlement; a settlement that is supposed to compensate, in some small way, poor folks who rented from slumlords who were not licensed to rent their slum properties in the city of Minneapolis, MN.

Attorney Michael Cockson heralds himself as the champion of the poor and downtrodden and the voiceless; a true defender of those who cannot fight for themselves. And yet, he is holding his own client’s money hostage due to his immense greed and yet here is the court record of the appeal that Attorney Michael F. Cockson has filed.

Go to this page, “Minnesota Judicial Branch” and click “Access Case Records” and then click “Access Court of Appeals or Supreme Court Case Records” and then click “Search Appellate Court Records” and then click “Accept” and then click “I am not a robot” and then type in the case number which is “A19-0578” and then under “Jurisdiction” click “Court of Appeals” and it will bring up the information about who is filing the appeal and the status of the appeal.

My cousin is a class member and he has been waiting on his settlement check to come through for quite some time now and thanks to my diligence in getting to the bottom of why he has not received his settlement check, we now know who is responsible for the checks not being mailed; Attorney Michael F. Cockson’s greedy ass!

Contact Attorney Michael F. Cockson and ask him to explain to you just why his white ass is too greedy for words since he took the case because he “wanted to fight for those who could not fight for themselves.” And now, those who could not fight for themselves are being left to hang out to dry thanks to Michael F. Cockson’s greed. And so blow his damn email inbox up with your questions, complaints and demand for answers. Telephone him and demand some answers since you are to wait until his appeal is heard before the Star Tribune is going to report on this situation and meanwhile, Michael F. Cockson’s rich, greedy ass sits back in the comfort of his opulent downtown Minneapolis office and refuses to tell his own clients that he is the reason their checks have not been mailed to them.

Ask him why he refused to report on the fact that Michael F, Cockson has filed an appeal over Attorney’s Fees which is holding up the dispersal of his own client’s class action settlement checks. I spoke with Ana Lastra at channel KSTP-TV and that station also refused to do a story on the fact that Michael F. Cockson was appealing Judge Mary Vasaly’s decision to grant him 25% in Attorney’s Fees. And so again, we have that ‘corporations stick by other corporations and fuck the people’ shit! If you ever thought that any corporation would treat people fairly and actually DO the right thing, think again. Michael F. Cockson, who is already quite wealthy, is holding up settlement checks of people who live in abject poverty because he is just greedy as hell. The StarTribune refuses to report on the fact of his greed and likewise, channel KSTP-TV refused.

What kind of shit is that? I may not get the viewership or the readership of the Star Tribune or KSTP-TV news channel, but I get views and I will take what I can get. And so once again, I am calling for ALL class action members to contact each and every entity that I have mentioned and find out why there is such a conspiracy on why no one will report on the fact that Attorney Michael F. Yeah, Michael F. Cockson is fighting alright. He is fighting his own clients by trying to further reduce their class action settlement payments(and also by holding the checks up) by taking more in Attorney’s Fees. Well, in this case, it would seem that ‘pro bono’ is not to be the case since he is appealing his Attorney’s Fees. Go figure! And did you check out who the story is by, Randy Furst, and so it is no wonder he does not want to report on the fact that for this particular case, Attorney Michael F. Cockson, not only did not take this case, ‘pro bono’, but is actually appealing for more in Attorney’s Fees than Judge Mary Vasaly approved, even though Judge Mary Vasaly stated that what she approved was a fair amount for this case. Michael F. Cockson wants another judge to overrule what Judge Mary Vasaly approved and grant him what he is seeking which happens to be 32% of the class action settlement in Attorney’s Fees.

People, know what the hell is going on and make your voice heard. Contact this Attorney ,Michael F. Cockson, and ask him to explain himself. Ask Star Tribune reporter, Randy Furst why he is refusing to report on this and ask those at KSTP why they are refusing to report on this.
