We Are Voiceless!

I threw myself into the fray.
I said, “I will persevere, come what may.”
Little did I know that I was to throw in the towel
so soon as I exit this stage with a scowl.

I added my voice to the billions who yearn
for a change to take place, but we never learn.
We are voiceless in the midst of this screaming crowd,
speaking to no one though our voices are loud.

Oh, how little and insignificant we are,
though we hate to admit this truth by far.
I talk at you while you talk back at me,
and nothing gets done in this virtuality.

I am part of a chorus that will never be heard.
I exit this stage, distance myself from the herd.
What language I speak, gets lost in translation.
And with that being said, I tender my resignation.

I never had anything of significance to say.
And so into my pillow, at night I shall bray.
It will do just as well as what is said to you now.
We’re all preaching to the choir and it don’t matter no how.

I wrote this poem because a fellow blogger I used to ‘follow’ decided that he was not doing anything of significance by blogging and that he was only adding to the problem. I, myself, have felt this way so often, there are poems to that effect all over this blog. When I first started blogging, I was full of inspiration and enthusiasm because I was mostly blogging to bring awareness of those who are also voiceless; the homeless. I thought I had something of significance to say and I also thought, “Oh what the hell? I shall add my voice to countless other voices out there!” But I also  wonder, “What is it all for?” Am I wasting my time? Yes, I’m pretty much wasting my time. Although, I will admit that I have learned a few things from blogging. I have also taken away from it, that people can often be close-minded, uninformed or simply misinformed and even outright stubborn and stuck in their ways. By reading the stories of others, I have in essence, changed in some ways and in other ways, I don’t think I ever will. It is human nature, I guess to want to be right and to also not want to believe that you could be wrong and that because you could be wrong, that maybe you should take a look deep into why you think you could be wrong and either rationalize it or consider that you are not as open-minded as you would like to believe you are; that you are not as willing to accept people for who and what they are as you think you are. I have condemned people based solely on my own narrow way of thinking and that is wrong. I was taught that unless a person does something to hurt me personally, I have no right to judge that person by my so-called moral code or to hold them up to what I deem to be right and good and decent and cut them down for not thinking or living the way I do.

There is much that I can work on and I intend to. But I would also like to think that through this blog, I have given folks an inkling into what makes me, me. And that good or bad, I try in many ways to become a better person. Will I succeed? I can but try.

Another Day, Another Blog Fight!

I just cannot let things go. And I know that I cannot go on a one woman ‘set the record straight’ crusade, but on the other hand, I just gotta call out mess when I see it. And so, without further ado here is another chapter in my never ending quest to awaken the brain dead.

I was reading a blog post titled, “Is The Media The Real Enemy of America?… Take a Closer Look…” and I took exception to some of what I read and I posted a comment. And as usual, things deteriorate after I comment. I wonder, why is that? I really don’t. I know why. That was rhetorical, of course. But before I digress any further, this is what I took exception to.

Reince Priebus, White House chief of staff, firmly suggested we take seriously Trump’s authoritarian statement of the media being the enemy of America. In actuality, these journalists who Trump so routinely lambasts, the result of his fantasy notion of a dark covert operation enacted to depose him as the reigning king, are in fact, not our enemies at all.

Seriously? “The media is not our enemy?” I almost broke down and wept over this little jewel. Since when has the media spouted anything other than recycled garbage? The media, as we know, is owned, lock, stock and barrel by a few corporate moguls who are quite determined that the American populace should remain clueless and unaware of what is really going on. We have been fed fake ass news for decades. It is only with the advent of the internet that we have been able to, thanks to alternative news sites, get some idea of what is actually going down. The ‘mainstream media’ has never been our friend and for once, Trump was right, the media is our enemy!

Below is the comment that I posted to the blog.

This entire post is absolute hypocrisy and an absurdity. The media is anything but fair and balanced. The media is owned by a handful of corporate moguls. There are no independent, unbiased newspapers, TV news shows and the like and I just love the last sentence:

“we must discern between what our country has always stood for since the day our forefathers set foot on our golden shores, as opposed to Trump’s vision of America”

You mean when some men and their women who were fed up with paying taxes in England embarked on a journey to find another land to lay claim to, kill off the majority of the original inhabitants and then go in search of free ‘slave’ labor to build up said stolen land? Is this what you meant by ‘our forefathers set foot on golden shores’? Because my forefathers were slaves and this shore was not so ‘golden’ to them since the ‘forefathers’ you speak of were themselves, slave-owning hypocrites who loudly spoke of ‘living as free men rather than die as slaves’ all the while brandishing a whip over the heads of their slaves. Talk about hypocrisy, this is the very definition.

I have never seen so many ‘white’ people up in arms over what epitomizes them in all my days. Trump is every single last one of you if you were to be honest. Look in the mirror, Trump is staring right back at you! And this is why when you look at pictures of the protests, hardly any ‘Black’ faces are in the crowds. We deal with all of you ‘Trumps’ on a daily basis and see no need to protest Trump. What would be the point? He is everywhere we turn and not just in the Oval Office.

———————————————————————————

Of course, all hell broke loose after that! And below is the response to my comment.

Since you have chosen to turn my blog into a racial issue, I feel it only fair to respond. I do have to ask first. Is this what you always do? Sounds like maybe. Contrary to your belief, I do not see Trump when I look in a mirror. I see the opposite or I would not be so adamant in my stance against virtually everything he stands for. It would appear to me, since you have lumped me under your single myopic category of “all white people”, perhaps you are the one who needs to spend some time in self-reflection. You’ve made your racial overtones quite obvious even though the intent of the article had nothing to do with racism. Yes, I fully understand there were slaves in early America, just as there were in Africa, the UK, and throughout Europe, but to hear you explain yourself, every white person alive today is somehow responsible for these atrocious sins of the past. I agree the actions of our forefathers were inhumane in this respect and it makes me quite ill to think that any human, anywhere, possessed such a high level of immorality as to enslave another human, regardless their color. Did you realize that many of the Irish were also held as slaves? Some of them were my relatives so I guess I should lash out at people living centuries later as well. But I won’t though. I am astute enough to realize these people had nothing to do with that, and I am certain if I were to ask them, they would agree how horrible it was.

I prefer to think the world has moved forward since those days, but some people can’t seem to get past things that happened way before they were even born. Our forefathers were wrong. So was the rest of the world at that time. Despite the fact, they came to America to escape what they could no longer contend with in their countries of origin, and yes, because of the historical times they lived in, slavery was an unfortunate part of that. It took many years to right the wrong of slavery, and many “white people” died in the battles for their unconditional freedom. In fact, most of the soldiers who gave their lives for the abolishment of slavery were white.

I served in the military for 14 years and fought side by side with people of all colors. We had each other’s backs and we never questioned where we individually came from, what our religion was, or where our ancestors were born. None of that mattered. We were simply people, united together for the same causes. We had no vision of black versus white. Most veterans don’t, but I’m sure you never served so you probably don’t realize that.

As far as the media goes, as I have written about before, they all lean either left or right which is why it is so imperative to read more than one sources take on something before determining an educated appraisal of the truth. They all report about the same things so it shouldn’t be all that difficult for you to do.

Please. Next time you choose to respond to one of my blogs, how about staying on topic and not taking things where they were never intended to go. Trump does that.

And just so you know, I, or anyone else for that matter, cannot change the color of our shoreline.

Peace to you and yours. And I truly mean that.

————————————————————————————————————

And the blog author did not finish there. Another post was put up titled, “Racial Tension in Trump’s America. What Are You Going To Do About It?” and I got an honorable mention. I am feeling quite humbled. I am such an inspiration to many, it would seem. I just love it.

In a previous blog, I made reference to America’s golden shores as being the landing place of our forefathers, using a description I have heard repeated many times throughout my 65 years, not giving the phrase a second thought. However. America’s forefathers were not the focus of the blog, and it had not a thing to do with our shoreline. It was about the media. Who to believe. Who not to believe. It’s a question on all of our minds.

As has become increasingly the norm in this year of your higher power 2017, one reader chose to hang on the words “golden shores”, using this strictly literary phrase as ammunition for twisting the media related blog into a racial onslaught. Needless to say, I was caught way off guard.

I declare, I seem to catch people off guard all the time! I am SO bad!

This person stated how the golden shores were not so golden for slaves who arrived chained and shackled in the hulls of huge sailing vessels. How can anyone with half a heart disagree? I certainly can’t. Maybe Ben Carson can since he believes these “immigrant” slaves were so full of hopes and dreams they were about to burst. The person’s response did not stop there, as you will read in a direct quote below. All this being said, I can in no way assume responsibility for the sins of anyone’s past.

No, he cannot be responsible for the ‘sins of anyone’s past’ but he can be responsible for when the present is a reflection of the past and there really is no difference between the two. So, I shall just post my response to this.

————————————————————————————————–

Well, I guess I should thank you for the honorary mention but there has been racial tension in America long before Trump stepped foot inside the Oval Office and if anyone is not aware of this, then all they need do is to unbury their head from in the sand. Racist drug policies are responsible for why 2.3 million mostly Black men and women are cooling their heels in ‘for profit’ prisons.

When crack was first introduced into ‘Black communities’ decades ago, there was no hue and cry over this. It was decided that a ‘War on Drugs’ would be declared and those who were addicted would be locked up along with those who sold the drugs. Now, along comes heroin in rural ‘white’ America, and now, the addiction of white folks is a most horrible ‘medical’ epidemic. It is now time for the CDC to investigate and report its findings on what is killing ‘white’ folks all across America; especially in areas that normally are not perceived as problematic, unlike the inner cities. Heroin has been problematic for the city of Baltimore for decades and no hue and cry was raised over this because of who resides in Baltimore; namely Black people. But everyone gets their panties in a bunch when drugs start killing ‘whites’ and don’t lock them up, get them some help.

Everything in America IS about race and there is no escaping that fact, if your head’s not buried in the sand, that is. You cannot escape this. And I also noticed how you go on and on about your military service. I would never, ever thank anyone of any skin tone for their so-called ‘service to this country’ because what service would that be? Heading over to foreign lands to kill people who have personally done you no harm? Operating a drone from thousands of miles away from a target that’s been declared, a ‘bug’ and watching a ‘bug splat’ once that drone has struck its target and those surrounding it which has also included innocent women and children attending wedding parties in Yemen and Afghanistan?

And if anyone is unsure as to why America’s military is still in Afghanistan, then, please feel free to read any one of my many posts about the fact that poppy production has skyrocketed in Afghanistan since U.S. and NATO forces arrived and took over. Please feel free to read my post, “The War In Afghanistan Is Not Over!” and please, don’t stop there.

I suppose you have never heard the word ‘gentrification’ and so you don’t know what that means. Gentrification is when rich ‘white’ folks declare an inner city, that once housed mostly Black folks, to be the new ‘promised land’ for them and so they promptly increase rents by building high-end condos, thus making it impossible for those who used to reside there to continue. Washington, D.C. is no longer known as ‘Chocolate City’ for this very reason. The Black people who used to live in D.C. have had to either become homeless or flee to southern states and I do know that many of them did head south and right into even more deep-seated racism because I am from the south and so I know about this, first hand. The Black people who remain in D.C. are in homeless shelters because D.C. has always been their home and they cannot think of going anywhere else. Besides, what would be the point when gentrification is rearing its ugly head everywhere?

The Ku Klux Klan, the Aryan Brotherhood and other skinhead groups did not just start up when Trump was elected. And who instigated the racial tensions that result from Klan marches through main streets in cities in America? If slavery and all it entailed is over and done with, then why was there a need for a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and his non-violence stance of marching to gain Civil Rights for Black people? And who shot him? If whites were not so racist and racism was actually annihilated with the so-called ending of slavery, then there would have been no Jim Crow laws on the books. There would have been no ‘colored only’ signs and Selma-to-Montgomery marching, Black church bombings and I suppose Dylann Roof is just a figment of my imagination, but isn’t he the one who went inside a church and shot it up and killed nine Black churchgoers? I do believe this happened long before Donald Trump was residing in the White House. And Tamir Rice was gunned down two seconds after ‘white’ cops showed up as he was playing with a toy gun in a park and yet whites take their children to gun ranges and it has been reported that a white child shot the gun range instructor, but no one shot a white child holding a gun, did they? But I suppose you think that Tamir Rice would have been just fine if he had taken his toy pistol to a gun range. Yeah, I’d buy that.

So no, I’m not the one who is perpetuating racism, bigotry and prejudice. We all know who is but you don’t like what you see when you look in the mirror and that is not on me. You own this and you know it. I cannot deny you a loan because I don’t own a bank. I cannot deny you housing because I don’t own an apartment building. I cannot experiment on you because I am not a doctor. But all of these things happen to us because we, ourselves were owned and as we all know, the slaves were kept dumb on purpose and what has changed because even you must have heard of the school-to-prison pipeline whereas inner city children are being sent straight from the classroom to a jail cell because education in inner cities is sadly lacking and that is why private schools are all the rage among whites who can afford to send their children to those schools, Black people cannot because we are busily fighting against discrimination in the form of loans at banks called ‘predatory lending’ whereas Wells Fargo deliberately steered prime mortgage loan borrowers who were Black to subprime mortgage loans even though they qualified for prime mortgage loans and those who worked for Wells Fargo called the Black customers, ‘Mud people’ and called the bad loans they gave them, “Ghetto Loans.” Now, how is that on us? I could go on and on, but some people, like you, refuse to see what is right in front of you because when you do, you must then acknowledge your role in all of this because believe me, those who enslaved my ancestors, their progeny still have that same mindset today. You are one and the same. And I stand by that statement.

You titled this post, “Racial Tension in Trump’s America. What Are You Going To Do About It?” and so am I to believe that my comment on one of your previous posts is the reason for this? I am not that naïve.

—————————————————————————————————————————————–

Let me just add that I don’t go looking to get into arguments. I really don’t. And I am not at all trying to be confrontational. What I am tired of is the fact that when we look around us, we cannot help but see that many of our problems stem from the fact that the more things change, the more they stay the same. If ‘white’ people were in fact any different from those they are descended from, would this country be in the condition it is in today? Slavery did not go anywhere. Prison is the new slave pen and cops are the slave patrols because there are millions of Black people locked up behind bars and for what? Because they got high? Because they sold a dime bag of weed? Uh…no! It is because the ‘whites’ still maintain that Black people should toil for nothing. ‘Whites’ still maintain that Black people are not truly human. And why to this very day, do ‘whites’ have a problem with our identity? They cannot figure out if they should call us niggers, negroes, colored, African-Americans or Blacks. Why is that? How many labels or identifiers have the whites had in the past four hundred plus years? We are still dealing with labels and identifiers but we are to believe that we are being treated equally because the ‘whites of today are so different from their ancestors?

Why is that if we have come so far since the first slave ships arrived on the shores of this stolen land? If today’s ‘whites’ are so different from their ancestors, then why has the Klan not disbanded? Why are we still watching Klan members march down main streets in ‘post-slavery/racial’ America? Why is it that every day some ‘white’ cop is beating the shit out of an unarmed Black man, woman and child? Why is it that every single time the U.S. Department of Justice gets off its ass long enough to investigate police departments all across America, the U.S. Department of Justice comes back with a ‘scathing’ report that states what we all know; that the police department investigated was rife with legitmate police brutality complaints, police misconduct, racial profiling and the list is endless and these ‘crimes’ are overwhelmingly against descendants of slaves? Which brings me to another point, if you want to call me something, then call me what I am, a descendant of slaves because that is exactly what I am. But you won’t do that because it reminds you of how I came to be here and you want me to believe that my ancestors immigrated here alongside yours. You’re even trying to re-write history books to include this. Just ask Mc-Graw Hill textbook publishers.

So, yeah…let’s keep spreading the lies that slavery is over and racism exists only because I want to blame all ‘white’ people today for what their ancestors put into play hundreds of years ago. No, I am blaming you for continuing to perpetuate what your ancestors put into play because if you weren’t still doing it, then why is there a school-to-prison pipeline? Why are those cops who are your brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, mothers and fathers killing mine? Why is there gentrification? Why was crack just fine when it was introduced into Black neighborhoods and incarceration was touted as the cure but now that ‘whites’ are overdosing and dying of heroin, that is a medical condition that needs some understanding and rehab? Why are the slave patrols, now known as cops, not found guilty of murder when they kill innocent Black men, women and children? Why are millions of Black men and women sitting in ‘for-profit’ prisons? Why is TV ‘whitewashed’ just as (HIS)tory is? Why are Black people the continued subjects of medical experimentation? Just ask Johns Hopkins Hospital why they are being sued for a lead paint study whereas they only used Black inner city children and this occurred recently? And why did they conduct experiments on Henrietta Lacks’ cancer cells without her knowledge? Why? Because she was a Black woman, but in the eyes of today’s ‘whites’, she was still not human and her relatives are also suing the hell out of Johns Hopkins Hospital. So, don’t give me any bullshit about my throwing you lot in with each other because if you did not belong there, we would not be in the condition we are in today, still enslaved!

And one final observation, why throw in that little message about there having been slavery in Africa, the UK, and throughout Europe?

Yes, I fully understand there were slaves in early America, just as there were in Africa, the UK, and throughout Europe

That does in no way negate the fact of slavery in America. I am not in Africa, the UK or Europe,  I am in America and so my scope is limited as to what I can speak of  in Africa, the UK, and throughout Europe. So, I guess what you are saying is that since there was enough slavery to go around, why shouldn’t America take it up as well? Oh, we all know the answer to that. America was damn sure as hell not about to take the ‘high road’ and still hasn’t!

Thank You Once Again, I Accept This Award!

my-second-award

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you Nidotopianwarrior for once again, recognizing all the hard work that I have put into, not only blogging, but also for getting up off my ass and actually attempting to do something constructive about all the societal ills that I write about. As you know, I have moved to a new city and I am knee deep in attempting to fight back against gentrification, a school-to-prison pipeline, abject poverty, miserable health care services for Black people and the list is endless. It is an uphill battle, but we have no choice but to roll up our sleeves and get to it. I apologize for the delay in posting my acceptance speech, but I was hard at work attempting to be a part of the solution as opposed to being part of the problem.

I want to thank you again, for this award because it comes with no strings attached. I did not have to go to Hollyweird and become gay to win this award. I did not have to don a maid’s uniform and play ‘The Help’; that’s Viola Davis’s job. You go girl, you subservient asshole! I did not have to make myself Forest Whitaker’s kitchen help in ‘The Butler’. Did Forest Whitaker receive an Oscar for his performance of being a ‘butler’? Oh my bad! It doesn’t take an awful lot of effort to open a door to guests or help someone remove their coat and hang it up. Way ta go Whitaker! Nor did I have to bare my bosom like Halle Berry did in ‘Monster’s Ball’ to Billy Bob Thornton and engage in a ‘steamy’ sex scene with a white man in order to win an Oscar. I did not have to be cast in ‘Twelve Years A Slave’ in order to receive this award. Do we seriously need to role play slavery when enough of that, for real, is still going down? I did not have to threaten to boycott Nidotopanwarrior’s blog in order to get recognized for my achievements. The Black entertainers in Hollyweird have to stoop mighty low just to get recognized by the whites that run the show and then when they don’t get the recognition they think they deserve, why, it’s time to boycott. Here’s an idea, host your own awards and open your own studios and tell the white man to kiss your ass, but only from a goddamn distance. Take a page out of Nidotopianwarrior’s book and start your own awards since it is quite obvious that when the NAACP recognizes your achievements, that’s not enough for you. Apparently, only white folks recognizing your achievements, matter. You don’t fucking know that your so-called ‘achievements’ will never be recognized by those pink-assed motherfuckers? How many ways do they have to show you that your ‘talents’ don’t mean shit to them? How many times do you have to play ‘The Help’ or someone’s ‘Butler’ or be cast as a ‘slave’ to get it through that thick ass skull of yours? Many of you coon heads are multi-millionaires and yet you still want the white man to pat you on your weave and your relaxer so that then you’ll know, you’re worthy. Get real! You can’t be worthy to the worthless and believe me, the white man is more worthless than you will ever know! But hey! Go ahead and beg him to recognize your worth. You’re in for a sad awakening, that’s for damn sure!

I do realize that this is one long acceptance speech, but everyone who has ever read anything on this blog know that I am southern and so, therefore, long-winded when I get going. And seeing as how today is my day to relax, I’ve got the time to give a good acceptance speech. Since I was the recipient of one of the first Grand Nidotopianwarrior Afro Power Awards, I had no thought that I would win another one, but I am just as thrilled this time around as I was the first time. And everyone is quite aware of my acceptance speech from winning that first award and if you are not, here is the link. Knock yourself out!

There are many worthy people who are out there in the trenches daily, who are just as deserving, if not more so because I scream and rant and pitch boogey woogies every other day about how I am going to stop doing a goddamn thing  and yet, they never ever think of calling it quits. I on the other hand, call it quits every other day. However, to be fair, it is just me letting off steam. I can no more turn my back on people than I can stop drinking champagne. Not gonna happen. Either one! Thank you liver! You are holding up wonderfully! But as usual, I digress! Nidtopianwarrior is one helluva man. He is an extremely wonderful and talented poet and he should also get started on writing a book because he is multi-talented and all of his readers are aware of this! Nido, take your bow because you are my hero, indeed you are! So folks, head on over to Nidotopianwarrior’s blog and check out the other recipients of this coveted award!

And finally, in closing, I just want to add that I am also honored due to the fact that I share this award with so many fine, outstanding and wonderfully talented fellow bloggers who are indeed, the crème de la crème of the blog world. It is an honor and a privilege to share this award with you.

And Nido, as you say, I am “Sassy, Classy but still ever so bad-ass-y Miss Shelby Courtland, ” and I hope to rev it up a bit! And so I say, AGAIN…Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Black Bloggers Matter!

BBM!

Baltimore Or Bust!

Baltimore

To all my loyal readers, I want to thank you for coming to this blog and also I want to thank you for your support in encouraging me to continue to spit out the truth. But there comes a time when I must do more than spit out truth, I must roll my sleeves up and do what I can.

At one point, I thought that I wanted to pack up shop and head to a deserted island and lick my wounds, and quite actually, the wounds are real as a result of a horrific car crash, but nevertheless, I decided after finding out that the places I had chosen to look at were just as Americanized as America, why, I’ve decided to go back to a city that has long held a special place in my heart, Baltimore, MD.

So, in a few days time, I will be driving to Baltimore with a trailer hitched to the back of my vehicle and off to new adventures I go. I have been feeling stifled here in the Midwest and quite frankly, these people never grow on you, they’re just too bland and vanilla. I love fire and excitement and danger and gaiety, Black folks, good cooking like collard greens, yams and silver queen corn. I love to sit by the harbor and sip wine and reflect on how great it is to be alive and I can do none of that here in the Midwest because all I can reflect on is how miserable I am here. What the hell was I thinking in coming here in the first place? Oh well, tis too late to wonder about that especially seeing as how I am about to rectify that by moving back to the East Coast.

I have long been contemplating a move back to Baltimore and for those of you who have followed this blog for the past year or so, you know I have penned poems about how Baltimore charmed me. I am not just going back in an attempt to take up where I left off as that would be a foolish dream, I am well aware that things do not remain the same. However, the same crime and grime and prostitution, poverty, homelessness and the like exists and since I have a bit of means now, I intend to roll up my sleeves once again, and attempt to become part of the solution as opposed to part of the problem.

What that means for my blogging? Well now, it is going to be a while before I will be able to post anything here and so I just wanted you to know that when I stop posting my vitriolic rants and raves, kick-ass poems that’s got me winning awards(Thank you AGAIN Nidotopianwarrior), it is because I will be caught up in all things, Baltimore. Now, some people have told me, recently, that I am the biggest fool there is for heading to a city where many are trying to leave and I have said to them, “If there were more people like me trying to help instead of just ignoring the problems, maybe Baltimore would become a city that shines by day as well as by night.” And there is something about that city, despite its many ails and issues, that will not let me be. Baltimore is a drug; it is heady as champagne for me. I’ll not stop drinking champagne and now, I must heed Baltimore’s call. That is the first city that I ever stepped foot in that literally pulled me in and folks, I gotta tellya, I started running away from home at the age of 15 and I was headed for Las Vegas then. GEEZUS, the stories I could tell. KKKops chasing me from city to city with teletypes following me and yet, I never was caught. “Up yours, mother!” KKKops just ain’t that smart when a 15-year old girl can walk right off a Greyhound bus, stare them in the face and request her luggage from the attendant and sashay into the bus terminal. Nope, KKKops just ain’t that bright at all! “Up yours too, KKKops!”

But as usual, I digress! The story of my life, eh? Anyhoo, I will be staying in a nice hotel down by the harbor while my new place is being readied for me. My furniture will be following me down since I never can plan anything, I am just a spur-of-the-moment type girl and that is how it has always been with me. The only place I have ever stayed  at for any length of time is Baltimore and I think the reason being is that Baltimore is just so close to everything. In a few hours, I was in Philadelphia, then in Atlantic City and could skip over to New York. Although, I’ve only passed through New York and never stopped long enough to do anything, but I hope to change all of that.

So, folks, as you can see, I am going to be extremely busy in the for seeable future and this is the only chance I am going to have to let you in on what I will be up to in the coming months. I hope that you all don’t miss me too much! LOL! Yeah! I know. Who is going to miss my carrying on fits? Hell! I’ve just been sent a comment stating that I am just too much to take. Oh, well, we can’t all be boring! Someone’s got to be the life of the party and it may as well be me. Now, don’t bother correcting my bad grammar here as this is straight from the heart and has not been edited and proofread, so cut me some slack.

I do want you to know that once I have been back in Baltimore long enough for Baltimore to soothe my ache for that city, I shall make my presence known in here once more, but I have no idea when that will be. So, this blog shop will be closed until further notice. But for those of you who will miss me too much and will shed copious tears of distress over this, archive to your heart’s content and know that wherever I am, I will be stirring up some shit to no end. Hell! I may even make the news. It is certainly my intent. Even though I may not be posting here, you may actually see me in action. So, don’t be surprised because I do not intend to be the silent one when I get settled in Baltimore. Never that!

And to those of you who I hold in high esteem, much love to you! You know who you are! And as always, I appreciate you, one and all!

Asshole Magnet!

This here blog seems to be a magnet for assholes. What the hell??!! I realize that I have asked that particular question numerous times over the past five days, and apparently, the beat goes on. I re-blogged a fellow bloggers post and did I catch hell or did I catch hell? I caught hell! I guess it comes with the territory, but be that as it may, I am attempting to demagnetize this here blog and my readers know that I go extremely public when shaking off assholes and so without further ado, let the shaking begin!

The blog post in question was in regards to the labels that are assigned to those of us who are descendants of slaves. Now, I do understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and Lawd knows, I have put up with much in here, but when the shit gets too deep, I’ve just got to scoop it out, publicly.

The blog post title: Don’t Label Me Black OR African American. I’m A Negro.

I re-blogged it and added this comment.

Shelby Courtland comment:

“Hear! Hear! I love it!!!! A ‘militant’ after my own heart!”

Ronbrownx comment:

“That’s cool, but when Whites start “mispronouncing” that particular label PURPOSELY and PUBLICLY then excusing themselves for their “feigned” ignorance, AFTER the damage is done; what then will be our reaction?”

————————————————————————————-

Shelby Courtland commented:

“They do so now. Apparently, you are not from the south as I have had ‘whites’ call me that on my job many years ago. They don’t need us to refer to ourselves as being of the Negroid race before calling us the ‘N’ word. They are unapologetically calling us that now as they have for centuries. It is time that we define who we are and not let some racist asshole stop us because we are concerned over how they will react. I am now in the Midwest and though racism is vicious and feral here, I have yet to be called the ‘N’ word to my face.

The damage is already done and what has been our reaction? Why, we call ourselves the ‘N’ word and then get all bent out of shape when ‘whites’ use it.

I don’t use the ‘N’ word in my everyday language, but I hear it from plenty other Negroes and I flinch when I hear it because to me, they have taken the most derogatory word in history and applied it to themselves. They don’t even care about the origins of that word. And for those who say that Negroes use it as a term of ‘endearment’ is just ludicrous. Because there was nothing endearing about slavery, whippings, lashings, rape, pedophilia, molestation, torture, mutilation and chains.

I thank you for your comment!”

Ronbrownx comment:

“Yassum! I’s bone in 1961, (the year Kennedy started serving his presidential term) in Cuthbert, Georgia, population 3,731 (yep, try to find that one on the map). I lived there uninterrupted, except for a one year stay in Eufaula, Alabama, until I entered the military in 1979. So, I know a wee bit about the South.

During my early years, we were called Negros. We didn’t select this label, it was placed upon us; even the great MLK, used the term, but check out this excerpt from an article by Adam Serwer, MSNBC, (April 12, 2014), “Lyndon Johnson said the word “nigger”. In Senate cloakrooms and staff meetings, Johnson was practically a connoisseur of the word. According to Johnson biographer Robert Caro, Johnson would calibrate his pronunciations by region, using “nigra” with some southern legislators and “negra” with others. Discussing civil rights legislation with men like Mississippi Democrat James Eastland, who committed most of his life to defending white supremacy, he’d simply call it “the nigger bill.”

What Johnson and others like him (George Wallace, Bull Connor etc.) did was moderate their use of, Negro, Negra, Nigra or NIgger, to fit the audience or situation. Often, they would use Negra or Nigra instead of Negro as if they were simply variations in the way Negro is pronounced and not derogatory proxies for the word Nigger. We, who grew up during those days were just as offended by the words Negra and Nigra, as we were Nigger, for you see, we knew that they were “code-switching” and that even presidents and governors could use Negra and Nigra claiming that those words were simply regional dialectical variations of the “proper” label, Negro.

My fear is, that if you say, “call me a Negro”, you’re going to be giving a lot of slick mouthed racists a license to use equally degrading terms like Negra and Nigra while claiming that that’s just the way they talk. Nothing illegal, immoral, politically incorrect about that.

Also, while growing up in the South, I had access to my grandmother’s 1957 Compton’s encyclopedias. In the “R” encyclopedia, under the title, “Race”, was the authors’ attempts at explaining the difference between the races. They grouped the entirety of humanity into three “racial” groups; Mongoloid, Caucasoid, and Negroid. The Mongoloid were described as; straight, black haired, yellow-skinned, flat nosed, short legged, flat-headed, and slant-eyed. The Caucasoid were described as: white to pink-skinned; straight or curly haired; slender aquiline nosed; narrow face and high forehead; thin lips; tall, well built people. The Negroids were described as; short or tall; blue-black to light brown skin; large, wide, flat-nosed; tightly coiled or kinky haired, wide set eyes, thick-lipped people.

Now I ask you, do those parameters, properly delineate your families, friends, and so on?

Those groupings, (Negroid, Mongoloid, and Caucasoid), went out of date with my Granny’s Compton encyclopedias. Race is a man-made concept. Genetically, there is virtually no difference between individual human beings. It’s like looking a bumblebees and establishing divisions based on whether the yellow stripe comes first or the black stripe. It is a ludicrous concept.

When the space aliens look at us through their high-powered telescopes, do you think that they’ll be sorting us into; Negroid, Caucasoid and Mongoloid? I think not. Those aliens (if there be any) will simply see one intelligent, two-legged, two-armed species called the Human species. When they abduct you and sequence your genome, they’ll decide that, except for minor color variations, they’re all the same species.

If you believe in evolution, then at one time, thousands or millions of years ago, there existed many species of humans; Neanderthal, Denisovan, Homo Erectus, Homo Habilis and hundreds of others, but, they’re all extinct, only one species survived; Homo Sapiens–us.”

Shelby Courtland comment:

Well, I guess I can’t argue with you being born in the south, however, this is not about what other people refer to me as, it is about who I say I am. Every single decade, we are giving a new ‘label’ by the Caucasians, i.e., Colored, Black, African-American and yes, even Negro, but we are so much more than a mere ‘label’. The birth certificates of Caucasians have not changed down through the years, so why ours? I don’t care what Johnson said. He is as irrelevant to me as are those racist, slave-owning so-called ‘founding fathers’ since they did not represent me because my ancestors were not even considered to be ‘human’ by those vile creatures. We could argue semantics all day and all night with respect to the fact that as a race of people, we have been denigrated relentlessly and for no other reason than over something that we have no control over; the color of our skin. When we fill out an application, on the application, we have to check the box labeled: African-American or Black and then check the box: non-Hispanic. And now, another box has been added: ‘other’. America is the only nation or country on the planet that does this and quite actually makes this whole ‘race’ issue, a catastrophic event and it is designed to keep us looking at one another, not as Americans, but as different ‘sub’ groups. It is a way to keep us in ‘our place’, so that we don’t get any fancy ideas that we are actually included in the Constitution and all other documents that pertain to freedoms and rights in this shithole.

The way we are perceived by the Caucasians in this shithole is no different from the way we were perceived when the Declaration of Independence was drafted by a pack of hypocrite slave owners. Their descendants will continue to call us out of our name just as their forefathers did. That is never going to change, regardless of what we call ourselves. We cannot stop those creatures from calling us derivatives of the word ‘nigger’ or from even calling us, ‘nigger’. It is more important for me to know who I am and what I answer to and I don’t have to answer to the Caucasians when they call me out of my name. I am not beholden to them for a damn thing and I could care less what they call me. I don’t hesitate in my descriptions of them and I will not and it is not because I am playing ‘tit for tat’, it is because they do not hold the only patent on derogatory names. On my blog, I will call them whatever I damn well please and damn the consequences. No one has to like it, but there it is. If they don’t have to be ‘politically correct’ than neither will I. The gloves are off! They have been off for quite some time.

Those parameters don’t fit partly due to the rape of slaves that was incessant. Maybe those features do apply to certain tribes in Africa, but for those of us who are descendants of slaves that were dragged to America, they don’t fit much. How could they? But that does not mean that it would not apply if our ancestors had been left the hell alone in Africa and not dragged here.

And there are genetic differences. Make no mistake about that. We are not all the same. We are not all alike. Depending on the race of people, some are predisposed to certain diseases whereas others are not and it is due to their genetic makeup that they have in common. Certain features are prominent in some groups and not in others. It is only the fact of rape and inbreeding that results in crossover features and other characteristics and traits.

If there were aliens watching us from a distance, then yes, I think they would be sorting us into different groups because the group that is hell bent on fucking up this entire planet and making it basically uninhabitable are the Caucasians and this, any alien should be able to see with just a glance. No other group on this planet has done more damage to it than the Caucasians, so do not group me in with that vile filth because I am not one of them and I am NOT anything like them! Not now! Not ever!”

Ronbrownx comment:

“Well, first of all Shelby, we didn’t choose the “label” Negro, but we did choose “Black” and “African American” so….What DO you want to be called? I’m just saying that, maybe “Negro” is not the best choice.

Why label at all? I personally would prefer no label except, maybe, “Child of God”.

According to research done by the National Coalition for Health Profession Education in Genetics, “…ANY two humans are approximately 99.9 percent identical at the DNA sequence level…this indicates that we are genetically quite similar to one another.”

Let’s put that into perspective, I had a DNA test done to prove paternity of my youngest son. The results were 99.99 percent that “I am that baby’s daddy”. Do you know what that means? Child support for 18 years.

The Human family is 99.99 percent IDENTICAL!

Also, it is ILLEGAL for any job application to ask about your “race”. They can only ask AFTER you have been hired for “affirmative actions” purposes. If you are being asked these type questions on job interviews, you should report them to the EEOC.

As far as what you call Caucasians, who cares? You’re preaching to the choir. We, who read your blog, share that < 1/10 of a percent of human genome difference as you, in other words, we’re “Black” too. The people who you are calling “whatever I damn well please” are not even reading your blog, or , for that matter, even aware of your blog. They don’t know how angry you are; they don’t care how hurt you are. You’re just a voice crying in the wilderness. I hear you, but they don’t!

What are you going to do about that? or are you just going to keep telling those of us, who already know how you feel, how you feel?

Did you know that our tribal ancestors, who inhabited West Africa during the 400 year reign of the American, British, Portuguese, French and Spanish slave trade, owned slaves too. As a matter of fact, most of the slaves brought to the U.S. were sold or traded to the White slave traders by West African tribesmen, who enslaved and sold those captured in tribal battles and wars, or who were deemed “criminals” by their tribes or enemy tribes? For them, the White slave trader was a handy way of banishing their “unwanted” forever, without having to have their victim’s blood on their hands. It’s horrific, but true. This by no means, absolves the White trader from guilt. If he had not provided the market, then the business of slave trade would not have been so lucrative for the West African African tribesmen. But even without the Slave market provided by the White traders, the fate of the captives of the the warring West African tribes would not have been a good one; for you see, these tribesmen would have simply murdered the captives. They wouldn’t have risked keeping them alive, because they were considered dangerous, and might attempt insurrection or escape. This attitude only applied to the males. The females were retained by their captives and made “members” of the tribe.

I served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force. I was sworn to defend the country and it’s Constitution; even though, the “founding fathers” did NOT write it to include “Blacks”, nor was the Declaration written to include “Blacks” but what it did was establish a Supreme Court of the U.S. to provide, continuous, interpretation and re-interpretation of its tenants; and it provided for a Legislature to create new laws and amendments. Throughout the years this has happened, both against “Blacks” i.e. “The Dredd Scott Decision” and in favor of “Blacks” i.e. 13th, 14th, 15th Ammendments to the Consititution. There were also decisions like; “Plessy vs Ferguson; Brown v Education, and the “Civil Rights act of 1964″and the “Voter’s Rights Act of 1965” . All of these had major impacts on the lives of African Americans in this “shithole”.

My point is, despite the trials and tribulations we’ve experienced, I’ve put my life on the line to defend the advances and rights we’ve “earned” through much death, bloodshed, and destruction. I think I’d choose to remain in this “shithole” rather than live in any other.

Let me ask you a hypothetical question: If you moved into an apartment but everything was wrong in it; the landlord was a crook, the water had rust in it, the plumbing sucked, the paint was peeling, the air didn’t work, the rugs were stained with dog piss and the ceiling was leaking, in other words, it was a complete SHITHOLE, What would you do?

————————————————————————————–

Shelby Courtland comment:

“I don’t know how we could choose ‘African-American’ because we are not a hyphen. An ‘African-American’ is an African who immigrated to America, became an American citizen, hence ‘African-American. That is not me. I would define myself as human’ but according to this shithole, I’m not even totally ‘human’. I am not the one who insists that there be a string of hyphens and pronouns describing my identity.

I am not a ‘child of god’. If you think for one second that I would practice any form of so-called ‘religion’, think again. Religion is for the weak-minded who need something to believe in and who need to be kept in line by some fake-assed made-up Santa Claus in some fairytale land of ‘heaven’. Seriously? I was one of the flock of the brainwashed when I was a child, but I soon threw that yoke of oppression off my shoulders. I think for myself and I don’t need to head inside a palace of worship every Sunday morning to hear the ‘word’ as told by a hypocrite who himself/herself is more sinful than I am. But because he/she has a Master of Divinity degree or not because it would seem that anyone who can get some dumb schmucks to sit up and listen to them drone on and on about the scripture, can open up a ‘church’ these days and amass a fortune from the gullible and the stupid, and I am supposed to sit up and listen to fairytale after fairytale? Nothing fucking doing.

So, you had a DNA test and it proved that it was a 99% probability that you were the child’s father? Well, if you say that any two human’s DNA is 99% identical, then the father of the baby could be any other human. This doesn’t even make any sense because a DNA test would not work if that be the case. Unless I’m missing something here.

I am not merely speaking of ‘identity’ as it relates to our options on employment applications, but about the fact that when the census comes around, we must choose the ‘box’ or boxes’ that match what we identify as.

And as for my ‘preaching to the choir’ and Caucasians not reading what I write, how would you know? You don’t know how many different groups find their way onto this blog and if I write to my goddamn self, that is my choice to do so. I don’t need validation from you or anyone else. If everyone felt like you do, no one would ever write a goddamn thing, including blogs, books, poetry, screenplays; the whole nine yards. You have a blog, so why do you have one if there is no point to all of this? You are welcome to your opinion, I just happen to disagree with it, wholeheartedly. And quite actually, you contradict yourself over and over. And if you have a problem with me ‘telling people how I feel and continuing to tell people how I feel’ then feel free to move the hell along. I am not here to answer to you and to you alone and so who do you think you are to question what I do and why I do it? Again, if you find what I write here to be of no value whatsoever, then why are you here? You pompous, arrogant blowhard, don’t come this way again! I am not so desperate as to need shits like you to come onto my blog and question why I’m even writing. That is MY business! You got that! So, take your dumbass questions and stick ’em where the sun don’t shine!

And for the motherfuckers that are slow or otherwise dumb ass hell like this here motherfucker, I have delved into the African tribal leader slave trade shit and I am not about to get it started back up. Archive to your heart’s content!

And since you felt the call of duty to serve in the Air Force, what do you want me to do? “Thank you for your service?” Because if you do, you are looking at a mighty long wait because I don’t thank military whores for fucking people up in other countries who have done them no wrong. If you’re a ‘child of god’, then that is something that you are going to have to answer for on judgment day. Not me. Because even if you saw no actual combat, by signing on the dotted line, you agreed to fire a weapon at someone who you did not even know and attempt to kill them. But you’re going to ask me about being ‘a child of god’? Are you serious? You’re just another one of those hypocritical, worthless ass, hypnotized Christian shits who go on and on about the bible and the rapture and some more shit and turn right around and piss on your own damn religion. You’re full of it! Take your dumbass elsewhere! It’s not needed in here!

And lastly, since your last paragraph is a hint at me to leave this shithole if I don’t like it, you can shove that up your ass also because I will do as I damn well please and I am under no obligation to ‘like all up and down’ on this shithole…AND…I can denounce it until the cows come home go back out and come back home AGAIN and what I say about this shithole is MY opinion to which I am entitled. Furthermore, I never asked you to put a goddamn thing on the line for this fucking shithole. You chose to do that and so don’t expect to receive any kudos from me for doing so. Go to your Reverend and ask him for a vote of confidence, but I am not the one and I will not tolerate the likes of your ass coming in here and shitting all over the place while attempting to get me to understand that you are merely laying down rose petals. Git ta steppin’! I am on a roll lately with getting fucked up ass motherfuckers out of my face! So, in here, your number is UP! Next!

—————————————————————————————–

Again, I do realize that all sorts of assholes are on the internet and that there are more than likely more assholes on the internet than are decent people and this is to be expected. However, I want everyone to understand…AGAIN…that from now on when I see comments that continue on and on, as the above, and get ever more absurd and contentious to the point where they cross the line, rather than close comments, the delete button will be used without hesitation because I can agree to disagree up to a certain point, but when I have reached that point, I am not putting up with any more shit! I have tried to make this understood on previous posts, but so far, to no avail. The shit stirrers who come here and deposit their shit are going to be dismissed because I have reached the point where I am fed up with being asked to explain myself or be preached at for my supposed ‘intolerance’. If I have said it once, I have said it a thousand times, if you do not like what you see here and if what you see here has no relevance, then why the fuck are you here, reading it…AND…coming back for more? Just pass by this blog and go onto whatever floats your boat. But this is the straw that broke the camel’s back. I don’t need to explain to anyone why I am blogging. I don’t need to explain to anyone just what my purpose is. And it is always those who claim to have some overwhelming amount of ‘tolerance’ and who accuse me of having a lack of tolerance who then turn around and display their lack thereof. I am no hypocrite, unlike many and I have stated that yes, I am intolerant of what goes against MY principles, values, morals and decency and I stand by that and make no apologies for it. So, for those of you who have a problem with this, once AGAIN, if you don’t move yourself the hell on, I will move your ass on for you! Make no mistake about that!

Never Regret What You Stand For!

will not conform

Friendships may come and friendships may go.
But at the end of the day, it is all about you.
Because no matter what people say,
to thine own self be true.

Never regret what you stand for.
And if you find yourself, standing alone,
hold your head high and don’t apologize
for staying true to your principles and for what you don’t condone.

You will not be liked by one and all.
And that is not why you are here.
For no one can live your life for you.
And those you thought were friends will somehow disappear.

So who can you turn to
when your friends have feet of clay?
You’re all that you need
to keep those wolves at bay!

To those of you who are second guessing yourself because you feel the need to conform to the dictates of a fucked up society, don’t! If it is against what you stand for, then stand alone, if you have to. You are not here to please everyone and that can never happen anyway. So please yourself. If what you believe in your heart to be true, then go with it and don’t let anyone make you doubt yourself.

So-called friends will come and go. Hell! Even husbands and wives can come and go, so if that doesn’t tell you that nothing is lasting and that you cannot please everyone, not even the ones who have promised to love and honor and cherish you through good and bad times, then I don’t know what to tell you.  And though people may attempt to beat you down and make you feel bad over your beliefs, pay them no heed because at the end of the day, they must answer to their conscience and you must answer to yours.

I know I am not here to please everyone and I don’t even try. There are many who disagree with my stance on different issues and that’s fine but when I know in my heart that something goes against my principles, I’m having none of it.

And if you come up in here with some crazy mess, know this, I am going to shut it down. You don’t live my life and I don’t live yours. So, don’t even go there with me. I am not the one. Now then, I hope we understand each other. If you cannot put up with what you see in here, then by all means, keep it moving. But I am past fed up with some who think that they are going to come all up in here and takeover. Ain’t happening. If you didn’t know, now you know!

Most of you have your own blogs and if you want to argue against my stance so bad, take it up on your own blog. But I am all about ‘Blackness’, not ‘Blackish’, but ‘Blackness’. Everything else is secondary. So take your cross-eyed mess onto your own blog. Don’t bring it up in here. You are not going to turn my blog into a 3-ring circus. I am respectful when I comment on other peoples blogs and when I see something that I disagree with, rather than get bent out-of-shape, I leave it alone, but I am disrespected on my own goddamn blog and it is not going to continue happening. Am I making myself clear? Because if not, there will be some changes going on all up in here; quick, fast and in a damn hurry!

As I Kick 2013’s Ass To The Curb…

"Vive la Champagne, France!...uh, I mean, Happy New Year!"
“Vive la Champagne, France!…uh, I mean, Happy New Year!”

I want to take this opportunity to say that I started blogging in February and as this is a relatively new blog, it has seen a lot of action; some good, some not so good. But after the dust settles from dust-ups, set-backs, moves(criss-crossing the country and almost into Canada)tears, laughter, anger(a damn helluva lot of anger), frustration, screams, moans, groans, 50 million “I quits!,” and that’s just the GOOD! Just kidding. It ain’t ALL been bad! This ‘good’ girl gone bad nevertheless! Hell ya!

I would like to say that there are so many great people on WordPress that I have ‘virtually’ met and no, I did not say, “virtuously” because most of you know that you’re not ‘virtuous’. Don’t even try it! My bullshitometer is working on overdrive. But be that as it may, you guys are the best of the best. We’ve created our own press releases, our own hot-off-the-presses, our own awards and ceremonies We’ve recognized the creative genius in each other and we’ve had no problem sharing the fact that we’ve all learned and been inspired by one another. In this crazy, wacked-out cyber world we have here, we’ve somehow managed to find a little corner where we all come to connect and see what each of us are up to; what our hopes and thoughts are for a better world for everyone. We’ve had some fun many times because without humor, seriously…how would we make it through these hard times.

Mainstream media’s lies, half-truths and flat out contempt for the truth is what is spurring most of us to continue into 2014. If they refuse to be a voice for the voiceless; for the innocents who are slaughtered on a daily basis, for those who are detained without due process, for those who commit no crimes, but are incarcerated, for those who are homeless, jobless and lacking food and healthcare, then we will. Mainstream media has turned its collective back on the poor souls who are fucked and fucked up. We will not let their plight go unnoticed. We will continue to point out the disparities in income, education and incarceration. We will continue to shed light on corruption. We will continue to call bullshit, “bullshit!” We’re not slackers, we’re attackers of the lies. We want the goddamn truth! And by god, we’ll stomp a mud hole in some lying politician’s ass; quick, fast and in a hurry to get at the truth. Hell no! We don’t half-step, not a bit of it!

And so, as we head into 2014, we are all aware that the battle is not over. This year is going to be a pivotal one as this is the year for mid-term elections in god awful US of Amurderer. Guantanamo is still open, drones are still raining on the heads of innocents, our rights have fled the building and we are under assault, every day. Yet, we have not given up. Yes, we are fucked(I am SO eloquent, not to mention..nice)but even as we acknowledge this, we also acknowledge the fact that though we may be fucked, we’ve still got some semblance of fight in us and with what little we have, we will strive to push the fuckers back!

Get your pitchforks ready, sharpen your pencils, put your helmet on and let’s go get ’em!

Love and power to the peons!!!

Every voice counts and is needed and guillotine the motherfuckers!!!

Happy productive New Year!!!!

(Oh, and just call me “Madame Shabela!” I tell fortunes and give advice to the lovelorn and the fucked up) and business is booming, ‘doncha’ know!

Frustrated!

Frustrated24Many times I have wanted to call it quits with regards to doing this ‘blogging’ thing and many times I have decided to forge ahead, to continue. Even though, like many, frustration kicks in because you put so much effort in before you click that ‘publish’ button. Some will get a few ‘likes’ and maybe even a comment or two and you think to yourself, “why did I go through all of the effort to research, to type and to find relevant images to display?” “Why has no one enjoyed the epiphany that I have experienced? Don’t they see what I see and if they do, then why have they not acted upon it? I’ve given them all the data they need in which to do what needs to be done.” Now, therein lies the problem. Do what? What can they do? What am I doing? I have been over this forwards, backwards, sideways, upside and down and there is just nothing that can be done to solve a multitude of the problems and issues that many face on a daily basis.

There will be no savior to sort this out for us. There will be no one person who will stand above the crowd and ‘fix it’. There will be no second coming of Christ, for those of you who believe in the first coming of Christ. We go on each day until there is no ‘next’ day. We open our eyes. We get out of bed and we do what we have to do to survive. This has been going on for centuries and it will continue until either we fuck this planet up to the point where it expels us all or we drop dead. GMO foods may kill us, a drone may kill us, or a vehicle accident may kill us, but either way, we will be just as dead. There is no way that we can fight every single battle there is. We are human and we are weak and fallible and the human body is going to seek sustenance over spirituality when push comes to shove. We can think that we have all the inherent goodness in the world, but if it came down to sacrificing ourselves in some way(I don’t know quite how) for the good of the many, what would you do? What sacrifice is worth it? What would be the point? What would change? History has shown us that even those who are held in high esteem, the ones who are in the history books for effecting change, what good did it do them? They sacrificed themselves to make people aware of the suffering and injustices perpetrated on others and look at where we are now? Not just here in America, but all over the world. What good did it do for the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., to step out of his comfort zone and get assassinated for his efforts when the Supreme Court just dealt a blow to all that he and others marched and protested, got arrested and brutalized for? What good does it do to quote Gandhi? What good does it do to quote Mother Teresa? What good does it do to quote Malcolm X? George Orwell? Or any other ‘visionaries’ who tried to warn us of where we were headed.

Yes, some people have awakened, took a look around and said, “we’re fucked!” But what else can they do? If they have not the money to build affordable homes for the poor, if they have not the money to purchase land to grow food for the hungry, if they have not the money to pay the medical bills of the uninsured or money to simply put to good use and help as opposed to aiding in destruction, then there is nothing that they can do except to try to not contribute to the problem. There are so many so-called faith based charities that are nothing more than tax exempt corporations who are not helping the poor, they are not mitigating the consequences resulting from a lack of housing, food and health care. They are in the business of lining their pockets with one hand and preaching bullshit on the other. It is hypocrisy. That is all I see when I look around, hypocrisy in the guise of charities and government officials who grandstand to win votes and then disregard their constituents needs and instead, sell themselves to the highest corporate bidder for their own selfish agenda. Self is another key word of today. Selfish, self-fulfillment, self-serving, self-centered, self indulgent, self-satisfying, self, self and self. It is all about ME, well isn’t it? If not, who is it about? Is it about YOU? What can I do for you? What can you do for me? You scratch my back and I will scratch yours. That is the mindset of today.

Why do you think that when the holidays approach, people will gladly line up and stand in freezing, below average temperatures and trample each other over what is considered to be an unbeatable bargain? Why are they like that? Why is it that they can somehow find the time to pitch a tent for a week or more in a store parking lot to grab that huge TV, but when it comes to lining up to protest against homelessness, hunger, lack of medical care, there are a few stragglers wandering around with signs while people pass by them in vehicles yelling at them to “get a job!?” No one yells at those who are lined up to buy the latest Apple product to, “get a job!” The emphasis is placed on materialism to the exclusion of all else. If you don’t have it, you’re a loser. There are going to be winners, but there are going to be so many more losers and the winners have the microphone. The winners own the papers, the media and they feed us Kim Kardashian and Justin Bieber and Rihanna and we eat it up. When Kate Middleton or Michele Obama struts an outfit, there is a stampede to purchase said outfit. That is what is important? No, but it is to those who have been programmed by the people who control the media and who shove down their throat what is important.

So, just because we have not joined forces and somehow stopped a world takeover does not mean that all of us are simply sitting around awaiting the latest chapter on Tim Tebow, it is just that we are all limited in what we can do. I can volunteer. I can advocate on behalf of those who are suffering. I can even sometimes help house a homeless person. I can continue to keep the issues in the forefront. It does not matter if I never get a ‘like’ or a following. If I am talking to myself, so be it. The fact that I am sharing my thoughts, sharing what is important to me, sharing my frustration at the status quo may be all that I can do because I see no other way to get my two cents in, but I will not point the finger at another and say, “you are not doing enough.” I know not what they are dealing with and so I will concentrate on what I am dealing with and hope that I can somehow find it in me to help someone else, even if it is only one person. I cannot change the world. I can only say to the world, “we’re fucked!”
