Alton Sterling just bit the dust,
down in ole Baton Rouge.
He weren’t looking for no whores
of the like in “Moulin Rouge.”

I hear he was selling CDs,
trying to become a businessman.
But just like Eric Garner,
he needed another plan.

And now, another gentle giant
was felled by the slave patrol.
You have got to understand
that the white man is in control.

So, pick up your protest sign,
and get to marching down the street.
I know your shoes are worn out
as is your tired and aching feet.

But this is how you effect change,
like they did in Dr. King’s day?
Just ask him how that worked.
Damn! He can’t talk no way!

Dr. King was all peaceful like
as he took to the streets of hell.
He said, “I gots me a dream
and they shot him dead as well.

Oh, but things is different now.
They let you riot and go berserk
but then they say, “Alright, you’re done!”
And around your neck, that chain, they jerk!

We’re all Massa’s boys and girls.
We sing and we dance for him.
But if we got no talent at all,
then we is dead meat to them.

Well, I for one, am not getting out my dusty ass, lame ass protest sign. Sorry Alton Sterling, but since it did not work for Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, Eric Garner, Aiyana Mo’Nay Stanley-Jones, Walter Scott, Freddie Gray, Sandra Bland, John Crawford, Ezell, Ford, Akai Gurley, Rumain Brisbon, Jerame Reid, Artago Damon Howard, Jeremy Lett, Thomas Allen, Charly Leondeu Keunang, Naeschylus Vinzaint, Tony Robinson, Anthony Hill, Bobby Gross, Frank Shepherd, William Chapman, David Felix, Brendon Glenn, Kris Jackson, Spencer McCain, Albert Joseph Davis, Samuel DuBose, Christian Taylor and on and on it goes, it did not work for you or for those who will be added to this list.

If I tweet about it, that should do the trick. If I post my outrage about what happened on Facebook, that will make a difference. But I chose to only write a poem about what happened to you and so I am just as much to blame for what is going down as the people I call out. I am a ‘do nothing’ hypocrite just like we all are. We sit back and we watch this go down every single day and we do nothing because marching does nothing, lighting up Twitter and Facebook and penning poems, does nothing. I am aiding and abetting in what has been happening to Black people all across this murderous hellhole and so no, I do not sit on my sanctimonious ass and call everyone else out without including my ‘do nothing’ ass in with the lot of you!

And hoping that Alton Sterling rests in peace is like suggesting that Alton Sterling has gone to a ‘better place’ Get real! The man is as dead as a doorknob and he damn sure got no peace here and he is expected to get some restful slumber while awaiting the rapture? AGAIN!!! Get real!!!!

But wait for it! The “GASP!” Justice Department has been called in. Yep! That’s gonna help! I gagged on that lie! Oh yes I did! The ‘officers’ are on ‘paid leave’ pending, once again, not a goddamn thing and so, nothing to see here folks. Move it along! Just ask the KKKops that murdered Freddie Gray and ALL the others!! And as always, this is just another fucking day in paradise!

    1. It should Richard, but over here it don’t because we here at ground zero, must be, quite apparently, immune to this by now because we do nothing about it. We simply pick up a limp ass protest sign stating everything from “No Justice! No Peace! Stop The Racist POLEEEES!” to “Black Lives Matter!” and what happens, the racist poleees don’t cease and desist with their killing fever for Black ‘meat’. They don’t give a good goddamn that “Black lives is supposed to matter!” And we don’t understand that we ain’t doing a goddamn thing about any of this. We are just pissing in the wind and then we go watch a movie and some fireworks. Yeah! We good!

    1. Oh I beg to differ! I disappoint, nidotopianwarrior! I disappoint my damn self because I continue to let this fucked up shit happen. I refuse to come out of my comfort zone and turn militant and die for the cause. I must fucking like living in a big ass prison because that is what this planet is, especially for those of us who sport a deep ass permanent tan. We must all love suffering through this prison hell and seeing our fellow brothers and sisters get taken out like yesterday’s garbage. We sit back and post away on how fucked we are and then the reader is overwhelmed with post after post on Alton Sterling, just like this here post and then, our outrage, dissipates until next time and next time and….well…you get the picture.

      Oh yeah, we are such great warriors and shit over here! We are kings and queens straight out of Africa and by gawd, we is proud of that! So goddamn proud that we wince every single damn time whitey white ass wags a bony see-through finger at us and tells us ta “git ta steppin” and if’n we don’t, he is gonna lock our Black asses up for jaywalking or even disobeying curfew laws. Yep! We got those too. But again, it’s all good! We got this!

I ain’t read a goddamn thang about this piece of Black meat having had a criminal record. Snakes alive! They finally shot and killed a Black man dat did nawt haf a weapon? Now, somebody should really be upset about that. A Black man with no criminal record should still be alive because he WAS quite obviously, the few, the non-criminal, the last of our kind! And now, he is dead!

      Leslie, you can post “The Rose of Black Is Sacred” until all the roses die from here to eternity and it will make no difference at all. I could go to the scene of this young man’s death and the next one and play it for the POOOLEEEEC and some mo shit and still, Black meat will be morgue bound with the coroner counting bullets as he digs them out to the point where what’s left looks like Swiss cheese on a slab.

      But do as you will! And I don’t even think that I am up to even penning another worthless ass poem for poor dead Philando Castile, the man that was just shot dead by KKKops here in Menacesnowta. And ole Governor Dayton has promised that “justice will be served!” Who the fuck is he shitting? I called his worthless ass when they fucked up my cousin in jail and what the fuck response did I get from him? Why, the FBI initiated an investigation and have I heard one goddamn word from those sons-of-bitches, hell to da no!!

      I am just so glad that I did not vote for his fucked up ass ’cause Governor Dayton knows all about the systemic racism that IS Menacesnowta and ain’t a goddamn task force been called in to even pretend to look into that fucked up shit!

    1. Well, I am here in Menacesnowta and I can tell you that this is not the first killing of its kind even though Governor Mark Dayton is acting like it is. This has happened, times too numerous to count. But now, for some strange reason, he wants to take to the podium and denounce this as ‘racially motivated’ when all of the other incidents like this one was the same.

      And you are right, this has happened so many times, her first thought was to get a recording of this. I for one, am glad she did. I more than likely would have sat there like a deer frozen in the headlights. Even in a moment of absolute horror, she kept her head and her daughter was a brave little girl as well. Unfortunately. this is something that many Black people are becoming accustomed to and it is so wrong in so many ways.

  6. It’s criminal that so many innocent people are gunned down on your streets. Shelby, I feel for you and I know how hard it is to achieve change. I fought for homosexuality to be decriminalised, for gay and lesbian friends to have the right to live openly and get married if they wanted to. I believe that no-one deserves to be gunned down UNLESS they threaten others. Cops have a duty to protect and serve, that doesn’t give them any right to take a life and they should be put under a microscope every time they do. The greatest among us, and the lesser too, are subject under the law, justice has to be served but must be seen to be blind. When cops get put away for failing to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that their killing of a suspect was justified then jail time has to result. Body cams don’t fall off and are there to ensure the safety of the officers and those they restrain. ‘Nuff said.
