Many of the stores do not meet zoning laws and Baltimore needs alternatives, such as grocery stores to improve impoverished neighborhoods, Rawlings-Blake said.
“I do not believe it is appropriate for the city to provide money for these non-conforming liquor stores to rebuild as liquor stores in these locations,” she told a news conference in the Park Heights neighborhood, which city officials say has the highest concentration of liquor stores in Maryland.
Nearly 400 businesses across Baltimore, about 40 of them liquor stores, were damaged or destroyed in rioting after the April 27 funeral of Gray, a 25-year-old black man. He died of spinal cord injuries allegedly suffered while in police custody.
About two dozen liquor outlets are thought to be in residential communities for which they are not properly zoned.
Dr. Leana Wen, Baltimore’s health commissioner, said the African-American majority city of 620,000 people had twice the per-capita number of liquor stores for other cities of the same size.
There is a one-block stretch that has at least four liquor stores.
A large number of businesses damaged in the April unrest were owned by Korean-Americans, who operate many family-run stores and liquor outlets.

So, it took the riots after the police murder of Freddie Gray, to figure out that Korean-owned liquor stores were operating without proper zoning permits? Eh? What’s that? You didn’t fucking know? Like hell you didn’t. You fuckers were paid to look the other way until the shit hit the fan. Now, who is gonna start an investigation into the shenanigans of the city officials of Baltimore that are duly sworn in to uphold the laws, regulations and dish out permits to legally operating businesses? Start with mayor coonhead’s office and go on down the goddamn line until you weed out all of the elected thugs that were taking bribes and kickbacks for looking the other way. Yeah! Start with the head coonhead, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. Since her ass was next in line to Sheila Dixon when she had to step down as mayor due to getting herself indicted for embezzlement, fraud and some more shit, then that obviously means that the corruption apple didn’t fall too far from the Baltimore city council tree.

The goddamn thugs are the elected city officials of Baltimore and the goddamn Koreans that paid the city officials, under the table, to look the other way so that they could continue to do a lucrative illegal business in neighborhoods all across the city of Baltimore and then take their ill-gotten gains and go back to Koreaville, MD. So, the Koreans ain’t getting no financial aid to re-open their liquor stores. Fucking sob, sob, sob! As far as I can see, the entire alcohol industry preys on the poor – from the manufacturers, to the advertiser,s to the retailers. We’re also fighting this problem in New Zealand. A few years ago, the Law Commission, after studying all the international research on what worked to reduce binge drinking, made the following recommendations: 1) that a law be passed raising the price of alcohol 2) that alcohol advertising be strictly restricted and 3) that the hours of alcohol sales be restricted (it’s possible to buy wine and beer in supermarkets that are open 24/7.
Our conservative government, which gets major political contributions from the “hospitality” industry, passed a so-called alcohol reform bill that didn’t include a single one of these recommendations.

..and why am I NOT surprised? Motherfuckers will put out a hit on their own grandmother if it will enrich them. Every ‘official’ is on the take or on the payroll of one industry or two or three or more in every country and nation on this planet. That is why we have no real laws that protect the average citizen because money talks. I was hoping that at least you guys in New Zealand were having a better time of it then us poor slogs over here. I swear, I stay so goddamn pissed off, I have no idea why the top of my head hasn’t blown clear off and is hurtling through space!
